Interesting Facts
The beginnings of the fashion brand "Chloé", founded in 1952, go back to Egypt. This was the home of the young dressmaker Gaby Aghion, who moved her residence to the "city of fashion" in Paris after the Second World War. She found support from the entrepreneur Jacques Lenoir, and in gratitude to her best friend, she named her brand "Chloé."

Gaby Aghion wanted to be an antithesis to the many haute couture designers. Therefore, she designed mainly wearable women's fashion that combined functionality and aesthetics and could also be used in everyday life (prêt-à-porter). The company founder was able to draw from a creative pool of young fashion students, including a certain Karl Lagerfeld.

Lagerfeld was then the creative head at "Chloé" between 1963 and 1983. He gave the fashion lines his very own style and made "Chloé" a globally recognized fashion brand. Especially in the 1970s, many female celebrities had a rendezvous at "Chloé" (Maria Callas, Grace Kelly, Jackie Kennedy and Brigitte Bardot, etc.).

When Karl Lagerfeld left the brand in 1983, subsequent designers were only able to compensate for the creative loss to a limited extent. Fashion designers like Guy Paulin or Martine Sitbon could not breathe new life into "Chloé" and Lagerfeld's return was only partially successful, which is why "Chloé" went to "Alfred Dunhill, Ltd." in 1985. Due to the later merger of "Alfred Dunhill, Ltd." with "Cartier", "Chloé" now belongs to "Compagnie Financière Richemont SA".
