A unique and accurate rooibos tea scent
I have to disagree with the previous reviewer who stated that this smells more like a green tea than rooibos. To my nose, this smells just like opening a tin of loose rooibos tea. It does not smell like brewed tea. It captures the dry, hay-like quality of rooibos as well as the honeyed and fruity (baked apple?) notes. You get black pepper and bergamot in the opening that are quite zesty, but the dry down that lasts for several hours after the top notes fade are straight rooibos to me. After 5-6 hours it loses some of the sweetness and evolves into a clean and woody skin scent of tonka, immortelle, and cedarwood. It is very unique, unisex, and has enough projection that people will notice it, but it isn't loud. I think this is easily a year-round scent. I can see the dry, spicy quality working well in the heat, but it also feels very bright and warming in the cold. I have not smelled anything quite like this one before. It does have a cardamom note like Gris Charnel, but I don't think it smells like Gris Charnel. I'm a fan!

A very pleasant green tea (but not rooibos!)
If I am being honest, I don’t care for the taste or the smell of rooibos. It’s not unpleasant, at least not in any way that I can immediately pinpoint, it’s just not too my taste. There’s something a bit “off” about its honeyed sweetness that doesn’t sit right with me. However…I am really enjoying Chris Collins' African Rooibos. I think that’s because to my nose–and I mean no disrespect to the perfumer when I share this–it smells more like a green tea interpretation than rooibos. And as far as green tea scents go, they’re not really at the top of my list either, but this? Oh my word. This is a not-green-tea scent that knocks all other green tea scents out of the ballpark. Out of the tea orchard? Whatever. It’s bright and zingy and effervescent with a rounded sweetness that smells like agave nectar and tobacco and lemonade it’s invigorating, but it’s not obnoxious, and it’s both rich and transparent.

Piercing lime and smoke opening immediately settle to a vaguely sweet, slightly dry herbal tea. Gets sweeter and more dry as it dries down.
