The Titan Dawn's Goddess
Beautiful dawn, you're just blowing my mind again, though I was born to endless night until you shine. Eos is, in Greek mythology, the Titan goddess of the dawn, who rose from her home at the edge of Oceanus, the Ocean that surrounds the world, to herald her brother Helios, the sun. Albeit I've no clue what's EOS got to do with it, I'm entirely on board with this gourmand fragrance, and I love its layers. It makes me think about a warm breeze at dawn lilting through the forest, gotcha! EOS is light and bright like the dawn!
EOS opens with a glaze of the fresh lemon-tinged scent of crushed juniper berries and a resinous and coniferous note, and the resulting blend is almost like that of Lemon Cupcake, but with a sweeter vanilla finish which takes it from Lemon Cupcake to more of a Lemon Meringue. Balanced with the vanilla, the lemon gives a fancy creamy scent. There's a hint of fresh and spicy dust, and I bet a black, white, pink, or whatsoever peppercorns are in there too, which brings it out of the sickly-sweet area into some fusion cupcake version of a lemony and spicy gin and tonic. I love that gourmand and boozy lemon meringue opening!
After a short time, the perfume begins to soften, and then lemon becomes light, tart, and slightly sour with the addition of a soft incense and smoked resin. I was expecting EOS to be a provocative and delirious fragrance, but instead, it's somewhat subdued and humble, yet it does not deceive me at all. At this stage, I get a powdery and buttery accord, as if iris root, or orris, were mingled in the heart. Altogether, as it develops, the scent takes on a dry cardboard accord, which does an excellent job of tempering the sweetness, adding masculinity to the smell, and making it a bit drier overall. If you are anything like me, you'll love this central stage. You know, both cardboard and pencil sharpener notes are part of the smells I secretly love.
Ultimately, after almost half an hour, the sharp spruce, I suppose a sort of pine, the sweet amber, and the creamy sandalwood come together to provide for a lush, but lightly incensed powdered warmth, still maintaining the fresh forest feel. EOS is a gently warmed, quiet woody perfume, that although humble, is somewhat mysterious. A particular heat, perhaps, remains in the base notes of milky sandalwood and earthy amber that temper the luscious vanilla in there, although it's much more of an indoor warmth than a woodsy outdoors. This final stage is reminiscent of the London Fog Grey Tea drink, which consists of hot water + Earl Grey tea + steamed milk + vanilla syrup. The result is creamier and sweeter respect to the opening and the heart stages; in a word, it is delightful.
EOS doesn't have either a lot of projection or sillage, and I find them to be minimal, but it is instead a subtle skin scent that is unique with its citrus, woody, and smoky blend. It's excellent for the office or for those quiet days when you want to feel special just for yourself and no one else. I can smell it on myself, and anyone who comes close can pick it up. The very first time, I've put it on in the evening just for testing it and had some whiff of it the very morning after, not sure whether from my arms or my pajamas. That's weird, soft projection, low sillage, yet very long-lasting performance!
It is a beautiful, well crafted, and intoxicating scent that covers a lovely story through three very distinct phases with attractive crossover periods. I find EOS to be an extremely wearable wonder, not too loud for work and cute enough to wear for the evening, dinner, movies, wherever it takes your fancy. I also get a good scent life of over 5 hours, sometimes 7 hours, with soft and diffusive projection. You are fragrant but quietly so, without being a why bother. It's soothing, refreshing, and sweet. It's uplifting with a fresh and slightly earthy feel. For my taste, it is perfect for spring and autumn moments; the notes within go together well with those two passing seasons.
