'Please Sir ... may I 'ave some more?'
When a fragrance is called 'Aouda' one would expect refrains of 'OUD glorious OUD' in a stage musical sort of manner to be ringing through one's ears. This rendition by Comptoir Sud Pacifique unfortunately seems to have been placed on a starvation diet ... the Oud in its pyramid unceremoniously lopped off in favor of Patchouli!
Aouda was my very first foray into Oud, ordered blind along with Aoud de Nuit (good deal on the net) the latter being traded away soon after as it was not for me. Many companies have since produced their own 'Voyages to the Orient' and this one seems to have slipped between the cracks of my ever growing Arabic collection.
After applying it today I cannot imagine why it's not in my regular rotation ... the combination of Rose and Patchouli here is simply stunning! I do remember emptying a bottle of this some years ago ... I'm very pleased I have a backup!
Aouda features a lovely layering of slightly darker Rose with Cedar and Patch ... and I find here a smooth amber creaminess ... probably the Tolu and Resins speaking up, but whispering. There is good longevity here with decent sillage and I don't think this fragrance is any worse off for the minimal use of Oud. It's not a fragrance that will garner a 'woof' reaction and turned heads as one passes :) ... but still immensely enjoyable to wear.
Perhaps a deeper investigation into the wares of Comptoir Sud Pacifique is warranted? I have tried a few and remain unimpressed by the vast majority of those ... but who knows? Somewhere in the collection another gem may be lurking :) ...
