The back
"My little girl, drive anywhere
Do what you want
I don't care
Tonight I'm in the hands of fate
I hand myself over on a plate
Now"

Which child of the eighties or nineties does not know this line of text from Depeche Mode's "Behind the Wheel"? One of my favourite bands in my younger years, I was very fond of the synthpop sound and later on also of typical new wave sounds. And just as I collect and hoard fragrances with enthusiasm today, I collected music back then. Not only did every album of a band that liked it have to come from there. No, the single releases were also important, because after all they not only hid new remixes of the songs, but usually also a nice B-side. This was also the case with "Behind the Wheel": The back contained a cover of "Route 66". My favourite dance was the "Casualty Mix", where the verses and choruses of the two tracks alternated, as did the voices of Dave Gahan and Martin Gore.

Mr. Pollito and I were studying at the time. Expensive money spent on fragrances was therefore not usually. Anyway, my lover only ever bought drugstore fragrances, at that time I had not yet discovered the high-priced niche. He had casually mentioned this one to me as fragrant. Since the fragrance made me think of the back of the fragrance of the same name, one day, while I was shopping for groceries (at that time at Tengelmann), the deodorant landed in my shopping basket. I couldn't have bought the EdT just like that because of the price :)

And yes, that was a special smell that I still remember today. When I read the notes now, I understand why I liked it so much. Pineapple and citric notes in the opening and later spicy and smoky, with tobacco and also patch. And even oak moss, which is no longer permitted today, contains this drugstore scent of the nineties. At that time I had no idea about fragrances, I didn't care about them. But I could sing every song I liked almost in my sleep and bounce my feet to it, haha! Still, that smell did not let go of me. I can confirm a similarity with Aventus, as the notes tell us. But those who liked Route 66 do not necessarily have to be an Aventus fan. This inexpensive oldie could do much more for my taste than the high-priced Creed. I cannot understand a comparison with Sauvage, because this one was not an Ambroxan bomb at all. Compared to Sauvage or other fragrances that focus on Ambroxan, this was clearly a silent treader with no nerve factor at all.

I found the durability impressive. My boyfriend "only" had the deodorant. When he applied this in the morning, I could still clearly see it on him in the evening, when he came home after hours of work in the workshop. At that time Mr. Pollito was in the pre-study phase of his engineering studies and was busy day in and day out with turning and milling :)

I had not remembered this scent for a long time. Not until I stumbled across it again here at Parfumo. And yes, to get it again as a vintage, that would have been something!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish a Merry Christmas to all those to whom I have not yet written personally in the form of a reply or a pinboard entry!

THE fragrance of the 90s
This men's fragrance was, I am afraid to say, a poem. Men who wore it were erotic to bite into, because the spice with the body odor developed into a mixture which I always had to sniff after.

On men Route 66 was a dreamlike combination of fruit and oakmoss and I myself owned the bottle once. Until I had figured out exactly what smelled so good about the man, I always thought it had to be a man's deodorant that I didn't know.
I'm sure there are some good men's fragrances, perhaps much better ones, that have come onto the market after 20 years, but this one has been something special for me.
