Imaginary flower
Sarcanthus means FLESHY FLOWER !
It is hard to understand why such a name was given to a delicate perfume that is a pleasure to own and to wear. Maybe the relationship is closer to a type of orchid I read about and I tend to accept this possibility because whenever I wear Sarcanthus I imagine myself in a greenhouse, surrounded by strongly scented flowers whose perfume is amplyfied by the warm ambient air.
Initially the color of the scent is bitter green. It creates for me the image of a huge fern , a surrealistic one, with fleshy , wet leaves like a huge umbrella . And the next moment, the perfume of bergamot banishes the bitterness and everything is colored in deep yellow. There is a permanent feeling of wetness and warmth as the atmosphere of a greenhouse. Yet it is never smothering, never overwhelming.
Usually I recognize the Lilly-of-the-valley but not here. Maybe I lost its trace in the openning due to the leaffy notes. But I can tell the presence of a shy jasmine.
In my humble opinion Sarcanthus can be an all season perfume. It is chameleonic in a sense because it shifts from green to yellow , to white, to green, to yellow to white, to....it's swirling and changing and ...it's beautiful.
