Ashram Fétiche
RELAX!!! Zachary winced. His guru's eyes were bloodshot, twisting in all directions like a chameleon's. Dazed like a boxer, the bearded old Indian staggered on his meditation cushion. Relax Considerably quieter this time, almost feeble, Sanji's voice lurched through the small ashram in Jaipur in a desperate attempt to remain conscious.
Zachary breathed the smoke of the incense sticks, that Indian blend of sandalwood and sweet blossoms, they painted soft ripples on sunbeams that poured through the windows like brown amber, flowed into bowls of dark benzoin, and interwove warmly with incense work.
Then a soft gong sounded, an abhu blessing the sandal room with beguiling drops of sweet champaka, which soon danced into the amber with the smoke of Nag Champa paisley patterns. Sanji slept deeply as the dusk settled around the light like dark patchouly, blending gently into the meditative pattern, into a tapestry of earth, benzoin and amber, balsamic incense and sweet nag champa, slowly growing quieter and quieter until Zachary finally found the void, after deeply relaxing hours.

Dawn Spencer Hurwitz, of North Boulder, Colorado, works her fragrances in the fluid borderlands between perfumes, bespoke, aromatherapy, and collaborations with artists. "Ashram" is a fragrance for meditation and tranquility, creating a link between the classic hippie scents of India shops and warm amber incense patchouly perfumes like Ambre Fétiche, an Ashram Fétiche in other words.
