Momentary Herbaceous Floral
Foxglove - the scent - smells sweet like fresh-cut grass, vaguely floral but herbaceous - as if it were the entire flower, not a single note, not just the petals; it has a floral-outdoorsy vibe to it, like a wildflower. No artificial notes creep through, and it feels unisex or occasionally feminine-leaning. It warms up as it goes along, turning into an a skin ambergris scent by its end. The downfall of this fragrance is its longevity - 6 hours at most. It simply does not remain upon my skin, and I prefer my fragrance journeys to last a bit longer than that. It's a quality scent and the scent itself is enjoyable, but the experience is transitory. For the outdoors experience, any of the other fragrances in the Hylands collection will serve you better.

Not Digitalis
No need to imagine yourself in the corridor of a hospital's critical care unit, the vague scent of digitalis lingering. Foxglove, the original source of digitalis, isn't actually an ingredient here, per our notes pyramid, anyway. Yes, Foxglove the perfume is vaguely medicinal, but in a beautiful and distinguished way. Citron, rosewood and carrot in the top make for a crisply delicious and inviting opening and the heart is subtly beautiful, beautiful from iris, neroli and champaca. The base ought to win an award: suede, peach peel, immortelle, ambergris, a deftly sophisticated blend that makes this fragrance the unique charmer that it is. My nose greedily inhales it from my wrist, savoring the successful strangeness of suede and immortelle rising in the heart. This is a seductive perfume, ambergris helping. Smelling this on a male neck in a first hug would surely encourage a second in the near future, all else being good. The photo on D.S. & Durga's "About" page gives the impression of people with elegantly outsized features--his (D.S.'s) head, her (Durga's) hands--creating "in small batches using premium-sourced raw materials" splendid scents. This one's from the HYLNDS line, inspired by Northern Europe's myth, history and legend. Maybe Queen Boudicca of Iceni wore something like Foxglove when she took revenge on the Romans. A fragrance gorgeously distinguished, but purposeful. Not medicinal, no, but enough of a hint of a bloodbath to do the trick. Per their website, the inspiration for Foxglove was the legend of Oisin, Ireland's mythic Poet/Warrior, for whom 300 years seemed like 3. Guess so if he was wearing this. I adore it.
