Leather lemon for the summer (and it still works)
After Uncle Cologne had accidentally not commented on cologne today, I felt compelled to return to normal and comment on a leather scent.
Pause, pause, long pause for the amazed looks uuuuand....further on:
In fact, I got a bottling of this long ago discontinued flanker only thanks to a gift of a federal perfume, at this point already thanks because the fragrance or rather a sample I have been looking for quite a while because it is not only leather but also cedar, my second weakness
Eau Sauvage, not much needs to be said, there are countless comments on the individual versions. The opening, as is well known, is very distinctive and has an intense lemon scent. When the yellow mist settles, one sees relatively quickly a veiled leather, veiled and lulled in a kind of creaminess. This leather does not permanently penetrate the veil of lemon. You have to symbolically take your time, lie in wait and then you will notice it: the blossoming olfactory flower, here the leather.

Now you can't tell from the scent that there was a lot of development and that it would always change. The scents remain the same and are built up in the same way: in the base we have a normal, new leather as you know it from not so intensive leather goods, rather finely crafted. The leather smell is decidedly but not overpoweringly perceptible.
The cedar works one level above. For me one of the most beautiful tree scents, its scent is sublime and harmonious-woody but not intensely woody.
This was paired with lemon, which at the beginning initiated this feeling of creaminess, but then becomes more and more spicy as the lemon recedes, just like old perfumes do
This all sounds very unspectacular and it probably is. Empirically, I can say that it is incredibly difficult to find a good leather scent that not only has this as an ingredient, as in Colonia Leather by AdP, but is actually a kind of refreshing summer change. Apart from Eau de Memo, which I personally don't understand, there is little. This one here from Dior was one of those, it was really strong.

Only the lack of durability can be blamed on the Cuir-flanker. Unfortunately, this seems to me to be bad, which is why one should consider buying this fragrance at high prices. It remains on the skin for many hours, but after a short while it becomes very delicate. The leather is also very delicate but not sweet, cuddly or something similar, like a leather refreshing towel which prolongs the power of the lemon as already mentioned. I stick to my 8.0, whereas it would be almost 8.5.

Very soft leather cloth
This flanker of the classic Eau Sauvage came out 41 years after its famous brother and looks quite classic despite its relatively new year of origin. It is also not a leather scent in the conventional sense, at least I don't hear a typical leather scent. If at all, the note in this fragrance is only very delicate, almost parchment-like thin, so that it is hardly recognizable. The smell of leather here reminds me of a leather cloth with which one takes up the remaining water from the cleaned amartures in the kitchen, bathroom or from the window glass. These cloths also exude only a very subtle, fresh leather scent, mostly soaked with the scent of citrus cleaners. I also have this scent impression with this perfume - of course in the high-end version.

Fragrance:
The start is reminiscent of the big brother. A sparkling lemon, although not quite so radiant due to the missing aldehyde, but nevertheless quite full-bodied, sweet and sour, sets the pace. Almost at the same time, it is accompanied by a soapy note that makes the fragrance appear fresh and slightly conservative.
After a short time, a discreet sweet-dry wood tone can be heard - almost translucent - which is warmed up by a light amber tone and becomes slightly softer. A leather wrap as described above is only very timidly recognizable. This wafer-thin, slightly warmed wood/leather note covers the fragrance like a soft veil and gives it a very slight deepening.
However, the original, freshly-cared-for scent character is maintained throughout by the dominance of the slightly acidic soapy lemon.

Personally, I like the original better, especially because of the aldehydes in the top note and its complex chyprecharacter.
The Fraicheur Cuir looks natural, a little more distinguished, but also flatter than the original.

Durability and Sillage:
Despite its filigree nature, it has a reasonable endurance of 6-7 hours of good perceptibility on my skin. Radiation and sillage are very restrained.

Availability:
Due to its very understated and pleasantly fresh nature, it can actually be used anywhere, although mainly in the warmer months and because of its somewhat classic appearance it is not necessarily suitable for casual occasions. Besides I feel it as unisex.

Result:
With Fraicheur Cuir, Dior has succeeded in creating a nice finger exercise by adding a soft wood orientation and a subtle leather note to the seeded original. If you can free yourself from the loss of aldehydes and chypre build-up, you will get a subtle, classic lemony soapy fragrance with a delicate wood/leather flap. For me no alternative to the original, but a nice change.

Back to Dior's roots
I have never been an enthusiastic fan of all Eau Sauvage versions and flankers, I only love the vintage classic Eau Sauvage and the recent Extreme version from 2010. This Fraicheur Cuir is a rare and apparently rather neglected flanker which I barely heard about sometimes in then past, I assume also because it was a discontinued limited edition, and now that I got a bottle of it, I can see why it wasn’t apparently that successful. In fact, for being released in 2007, it smells extremely, amazingly close to the vintage version of classic Eau Sauvage, just – as the name says – with an elegant shade of thin, dry leather. That’s it, so the name is perfectly fit: it’s Eau Sauvage at its best, it’s fresh (with a slight, almost unperceivable but well-fitting sort of watery-ozonic vibe at first), and it has leather. All in the most respectable quality you can imagine. As simple as it gets: bracing and pungent at first, slightly more herbal than classic Eau Sauvage maybe (L’Homme de Grès kind of vibrant, pungent green bitterness), gently surrounded by a dry, dark, mannered and austere frame of dry leather, just tinged with a hint of powderiness (lavender, I assume), distantly reminding of some leathery feminine chypres. Simple, but fantastic. An amazing time capsule with a modern vibe, probably too elegantly nostalgic to find its way in nowadays’ market, and a precious and sophisticated homage to Dior’s golden era. Quite worth the price.

Light leather...
Citric opening with a light leather note on the base.

It would be great if it had a better lasting power, which is actually below average.

Sillage and projection are soft too.

Your favorite citrus aromatic, now with leather
Not much to say as to those from decades ago that were blended after classic EdCs - citric topnotes morphing into floral midnotes and leading to leather. "Cedar" leads to misunderstandings for the very simple reason that is absent.

Many consumers buy fragrances with the idea that projection extending meters and neverending longevity are the attributes that justify high prices. This is correct nowadays, but that was not the case decades ago: men were supposed to smell fine and that meant scents to be smelt when close, the other way around was the choice for women. Besides, Eau Sauvage (ES) is blended after citric notes, and these are fleeting.

All this result in the fact ES is short lived and discreet, that would make ES the right option for those that think that too much is too bad - classy people that run away from notoriety as if it were the pest.

So, lovers of Mancera's Red Tobacco et al of the kind... this is not for you.
