Interesting Facts

The mythological Sirens are said to have lived on the small archipelago group of islands known as Li Galli (also known as Le Sirenuse) off the Amalfi Coast, near Positano and the island of Capri. In the picturesque town of Positano, a first-class 5-star hotel is named after these islands, founded in 1951 in an 18th century palazzo by the Neapolitan Sersale family.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this hotel, starting in 2002, a daughter of the family, Marina Sersale (documentary filmmaker, film producer), and her partner Sebastián Álvarez Murena (journalist and entrepreneur), with the support of perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour, developed an in-house brand fragrance: "Eau d'Italie", which was launched in 2004. It was intended to honor Le Sirenuse by specifically capturing the scents of the Amalfi Coast in a typically Italian-Mediterranean perfume.

The concept of creating a perfume house in the tradition of a renowned style hotel and launching high-end niche perfume was a success. After the first house fragrance enjoyed great success, a second fragrance, "Paestum Rose," followed two years later. Since then, others have appeared, now using the name of the first creation ("Eau d'Italie") as a brand name.
