Interesting Facts
The fashion brand "Aigner" was named after Etienne Aigner, who was born in 1904 in Slovenia, where he gained a lot of experience with the material through his work as a bookbinder. However, a move to Paris, a marriage, and a change of denomination steered his life in a different direction. During the occupation, he was active in the resistance, and immediately after the end of the war, he was able to attract attention with his first designs for handbags. Well-known fashion houses such as Lanvin, Rochas, Fath, and Dior adopted his creations, and so his name was already known when he moved to New York in 1950, and then founded the label 'Aigner' named after him.
After further successful years in the USA, the company was sold to a German businessman in 1965, who further expanded the company. For example, travel bags and shoes (1972), a cosmetics portfolio (1975), and high-quality women's clothing (1978) were added. In 1983, "Aigner" finally went public. This was followed by further restructuring and expansion and, at the same time, a steady expansion of the product range.
The Munich-based "Etienne Aigner AG" distributes the articles under "Etienne Aigner" in North America and under "Aigner" in the rest of the world. The exclusive clientele and the low-price segment are equally served. The label's handmade leather goods, cosmetics, jewelry, and accessories are sold in upscale specialty stores, in the company's stores, and online.
