Like a Rich Creamy Milkshake
Ferrari is an Italian-Dutch luxury F1 sports car manufacturer based in Maranello, which has its personal men's colognes, each one expressing the sporty spirit of the brand. I started collecting the perfumes of this house with the fruity Man in Red. Then advancing through the leathery Ferrari Uomo, the outstanding EDP Essence line including the four unisex solinote gems. And lastly, these little jewels from the Scuderia line, of which I own Black Signature and Forte. Today I would like to describe to Red (not to be confused with Racing Red) a legacy cologne from 1996 still actual today with a new matt red dress. When I saw this product at a discounted price in a department store in a neighbouring town and tested it, I went nuts for the fragrance. To be honest, the perfume has been available for some time on the shelves of perfumeries that I frequent. Still, I never paid attention convinced that it was an ordinary colony already smelt a million times. But I was wrong, and I want to tell you why. It was not exactly as I imagined it.

Ferrari Scuderia Red opens with fresh and citrusy touches, lemon verbena, and green mint mix with orange peel. Floral and green galbanum with its fougère nuances and petitgrain soon reach the minty and lemony accord. A delicate touch of bergamot adds a velvety softness to the initial composition making it rounder yet not excessively citrusy or sharp. Maybe someone was expecting something more virile, decisive and overbearing from a bottle of Ferrari Scuderia Red with such an iconic dazzling red of the racing team, but what welcomes you it is a shy gentleman holding a bouquet in its hand, with his delicate and graceful tones. The upper stage is citrus and fresh without taking an inflexion point on the perfect Cologne atmosphere.

As the citrus accord subsides, a more floral heart opens with powdery iris and succulent jasmine. The result is comforting, like a caress, the iris is dusty, but without the atmosphere of lipstick, while jasmine makes the heart palpitates. A slightly green geranium compensates for the floral aspect and a pinch of nutmeg season the mixture with a warm spiciness. So, the intermediate phase is entirely dedicated to blossoms and spices, the more it evolves, the more it gets floral. I wish I could smell this intermediate phase for hours, it's so intoxicating and pleasant that I can't get enough of it.

The dry down is still kind and elegant, not too woody or mossy. Dry cedarwood and creamy sandalwood make a new pair along with oak moss. A hint of vanilla, to me almost unnoticeable, enriched with herbaceous musk complete the final stage.
Once it has reached its full dry down, it can be summarized in a very soft, woody, citrus and green fragrance with very sweet floral and spicy accords. The scent is airy, clean, delicate, fresh, light, masculine but not too much, modern, also sporty, and pleasant. If you are fond of a fresh bouquet of flower smell, this is it.

Since you cannot pretend to have everything, you have to compromise and accept an excellent fragrance at the expense of mediocre performances. Red certainly does not shine for its sillage, let alone for its longevity. It starts off pretty strong but quickly settles into a moderate fragrance. Notwithstanding, some people don't like the strong one and prefer this one most. It is light but still noticeably present. It grows the best outdoors in warm and sunny weather, a perfect springtime cologne. The scent is so smooth and inoffensive that matches the office as well as a leisure day off. That means with both a relaxing jeans outfit and a dress up suit, the fragrance fits both. Besides, I would try it when I am going running or to the gym. You can not make mistakes, Ferrari Scuderia Red will make you feel sophisticated, masculine, confident in no time with its aromas. From the upper to the lower class, it covers the whole kingdom.

Ferrari by name, but not by nature
Unfortunately a very cheap and generic drugstore style scent which does not reflect the Ferrari brand name. What you get is essentially citrus top notes which then dry down to a woody style base. The notes in the pyramid do look quite interesting, but unfortunately I've not been able to detect most of them myself. On the plus side though it's a pleasant enough fragrance, there's just nothing that stands out enough for me to be able to recommend it. Even at this kind of price point you can do so much better. Ferrari do seem to have moved up a couple of gears over the past couple of years or so with the 'Essence Collection' which seem to be higher quality on the whole. So I look forward to taking those for a spin and hope for better results.

Pros: Nice bottle, inexpensive
Cons: Very ordinary smelling, poor longevity"

"Technical" Citrus Fragrance
Recently I´ve got a sample of Ferrari Red and tested it:
Enjoyable, quite clean and decent Citrus Fragrance. Especially Bergamot and Orange melt to intense but pleasant impressions. This fragrance appears to be skillfully "engineered", but it does appear a little too clean and expressionless. It remembers more of a Ferrari Formula 1 racecar than of one of their sports cars: Trimmed to efficiency with little or no room for emotional or playful design.
Nevertheless, a nice Fragrance for a technical, businesslike and sportive man. Lasts at best medium if not a little shorter.

It's airy, clean, delicate, fresh, light, manful but not too much, modern, also sporty, and pleasant. For those fond of floral, this is it!
