I got to know the French fragrance label FiiLiT (derived from "feel it" and "fill it") for the first time two years ago at the GAoP in Düsseldorf. One of the young company founders was there in person and presented three different creations.
In the meantime, the portfolio has expanded to a total of ten eau de parfums in all kinds of colour shades. They consist of between 87-100% natural ingredients and come both clean and vegan. Behind the creations is the perfumer Stéphanie Bakouche (among others "Invasion Barbare").
According to the promises made in the selection of raw materials, the emphasis is on sustainability and consideration for the interests of the local population and their environment. This means materials from fair trade, environmentally friendly packaging from sustainable forest management, organic alcohol from French wheat cultures and organic essential oils. Everything is free of parabens, phthalates, dyes, endocrine disruptors and animal experiments. I don't think I can do any more than that!
This is a highly laudable approach that few, if any, perfume labels achieve - and all fragrances are dedicated to exotic destinations from all over the world, which is more or less reflected in their colours.
The word "Saudade" was ranked sixth among the ten most beautiful words in the world by the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen e. V. Berlin and, according to a British survey of linguists and interpreters, was voted one of the top ten "most untranslatable words in the world".
The word comes from the Portuguese and describes a specific form of world-weariness, nostalgic dreams, longing for other places and love - which one can feel for the Amazon region and its habitats.
The fragrance radiates anything but melancholy but rather joie de vivre, because it is green on all corners, edges and river bends. On the one hand, it is quite fresh and sour due to the restrained lemon, but also somewhat exotic due to floral and fruity notes, above all the passion flower.
In between, as befits itself, a neat green trimming, woody-plant Piri Piri (in the Amazon known as aphrodisiac for women) and even some guaiac wood, at the end rounded off with a balsamic coat of paint, with which the whole creation embodies a minimal swelling of the rainforest.
I've never been to the Amazon, but I think the whole thing fits the theme perfectly. And that is exactly what I would chalk up to many other concept scents. But here everything fits together wonderfully and the illusion is perfect.
There's only one teeny bit of catch to this. No, that's not even the price, because all EdPs are offered at a relatively fair price.
It is the shelf life that has its limits due to the naturalness of the ingredients, even if it is already quite long lasting. But even for this there is an ideal solution, because all creations are offered matching the color with 11 ml travel pocket atomizers made of wood, which can of course be exchanged. Meanwhile also some fragrances are available for refilling.
All in all a wonderfully round concept in all respects. I think if I started a perfume label myself, FiiLiT would be my role model for sustainability. Maybe with a few more attractive flacons, but everything else has been done right here. Sure - the scents are a matter of taste and you would have to test them all one by one and then get back to me. But Saudade is absolutely great made, even if it could take a little more volume for my taste. Otherwise, I'll keep my fingers crossed for the brand that it can successfully assert itself on the hard perfume market
