Flowery green jackpot...
There was a time when French fragrance houses were among my undisputed favourites......unfortunately (for me at least ;-)...) many of them have dedicated themselves to the current fragrance trends - which is understandable in monetary terms...

However, they have lost me for the most part as a potential customer....at least as far as the newer fragrances are concerned.....I like it classic, floral, green, chypry......understated, elegant and distinguished......

The obvious thing to do now was to turn more and more to the traditional English fragrance houses ......here I find everything my heart desires .....and even MORE!
Like for example "Connemara"......the fragrance house here is Irish, but nevertheless it remains true to the typical British line.....

Connemara is flowery-green-bright without being pungent or cold......mimosa and a shaken measure of clove ensure that the fragrance does not slip too much into small girlish sweetness, but also wraps the adult woman in a classically elegant floral veil.....

My iris fears (yes, I don't like iris ;-)...) fortunately didn't come true... together with peach, sandalwood and vanilla it merely provides a soft and flattering base here......the fragrance never gets dry or even dusty at any time....

In my imagination Connemara is a fragrance for a long summer walk or ride through the wild green Irish countryside and the final Guiness in the village pub.....

Hach, what is there better than a blind purchase, which is not only shamelessly cheap, but also a bull's eye :-)...!

A Proper Rose Face Cream
Connemara begins the pomp and circumstance of a loud trumpeting lily-of-the-valley and English garden rose combined with a very peculiar blast of sodium hydroxide (Lye), on my skin. I catch the beginning of a fresh carnation note, but it stops midair and is beaten senseless by a vintage violet and iris note, to which, the roses nod in stoic approval as they return to center stage. This immediately remind of a thick luxury rose scented body cream from Spain called Maria Evora's Beach Rose. In other words, this reminds me a bit of Ponds Night Facial Cold Cream mixed with a dash of the original Bvgari Pour Femme.
I do not recommend spraying this with abandon and then sticking your nose within 6 inches of that area for the first 5 minutes. It will singe your nose hairs off, initially! This fruity floral is an stately grand dame with a sizable dose of dignity and the false bravado and pious countenance of a true aristocrat. Give her a minute to take her hat off and offer her some tea before peeling off her coat. After about 10 minutes, I can detect a fruity mixture from the peach, that blessedly diminishes the sodium hydroxide note and makes this fragrance a little more approachable. For me the freesia at the top, the mimosa in the middle, as well as sandalwood and vanilla are obscured behind the rose cream and soapiness. Connemara eventually develops into a stiff, clean linear fruity rose with soft iris white musk drydown. It has a mature and feminine feeling, IMHO. One spritz or a couple of gentle dabs is all that is needed because it has sillage of about 1-2 ft. radius and lasts all day/night. All-in-all I perceive this as a lovely rose face cream for the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire.
