I wouldn't necessarily have thought to try this unobtrusively lovely scent based on its listed notes (which are common), its availability (which is not wide), or its reviews (are there any?). But I had the good fortune to be sniffing around Jovoy Paris and liked this one enough to ask for a sample.

Grapefruit, vetiver, and cedar are all available in essential oils, and surely some amateur mixers of essential oils have put them together (maybe I have, actually?). But Darwin is more than that. It crosses the line between essential oil mixing to perfumery quite easily. Darwin is fresh without being all about citrus - the vetiver is more dominant than the grapefruit, giving a sense of spaciousness and earthiness. (Vetiver tends to make me think of wide-open land and bright gray skies.) It's absolutely linear but is so pleasant one doesn't need development. It's lovely on me, but I think it would be a go-to scent for an adult man who is sophisticated but not pretentious. He could wear it when the weather was too hot for PG Coze or Rochas Man, or if he wanted a break from Terre d'Hermes or Encre Noir. Fueguia 1833 is based in Buenos Aires, far from the traditional centers of perfume, and I look forward to it getting wider distribution and attention.
