Bedtime Fairy Tale
I added Gandini Tè Bianco to my collection recently. When I saw it on the shelf some time ago, I didn’t pay too much attention. Instead, I preferred the other collection pieces, such as Tabacco, Black Oud, Rosa Rose, and Note di Sale. The idea of having a spring fragrance featuring white tea was turning in my head for a while. I was looking for something fresh and light, like a clean white shirt or pristine linen sheets. And here we go. Tè Bianco is a perfectly balanced floral, woody and musky fragrance. It is delicate but not weak, very relaxing, and it is a perfect olfactory representation of the white color that expresses serenity, calm, lightness. There is a white ingredient at every stage, namely white tea, white pepper, and white moss.
On the first spray, it’s a powerful blast of soapy aldehydes, similar to hairspray. Since it doesn’t mention aldehydes, I assume this accord comes from the blend of citron and bergamot. And then there are the white tea leaves. It is difficult to explain the redolence of white tea. Unlike the aromas of other tea categories, white tea fragrances do not define themselves as a “fruity,” “herbaceous,” or “floral” smell. However, white tea almost immediately mixes with a soft woody note that gives the fragrance a slightly sweet touch. Not the standard intensely pungent type of wood, but think more like light oak wood—a whisper of green from tiny bitter tea leaves.
After a while, the heart opens, and a light peppery scent enters the scene to revive the sweetness. It is a dusty heart, with the support of alpha-iso methyl ionone, mentholated thanks to the touch of green cardamom. Get close to your skin to grasp this exquisite accord, as the scent is truly intimate. There is a non-citrus freshness from the frozen but soft cardamom; a vague and pleasant floral, clean but not spicy, and delicate pepper hint.
The tea fades into white musk and ambrette and is a very soft and velvety accord. Yerba mate and dried musk mallow seeds only add to this brilliant formula, making it a must for any accurate estimator. While musk is dominant, and for a moment, I thought I was wearing Brother Gandini Muschio Bianco, it blends with the other notes in a light effect rather than its usual fuzzy or powdery texture. Instead, maté and ambrette are somewhat subdued. I would have liked to have felt their presence a little more.
It is very comparable to Trussardi Bianco and Bulgari The Blanc. They are all fresh fragrances, out of the shower, with distinct peppery and musky notes. There is no dirt in them. The composition might seem simple, almost linear, but you can perceive the different nuances and the complex refinement by paying attention. Tè Bianco is very summery and fresh and leaves a romantic personality trace, like a flower about to bloom. It looks like a mist of fresh dew drops. It is light and serene, very neutral, but with a touch of complexity in its watercolor-like scent. It’s a perfect example of creating a perfume that doesn’t offend anyone but isn’t just boring or too mainstream. Tè Bianco fragrance sticks to the skin like a lightly scented body lotion. Wear softly and closely. It is soapy and genderless. It is an unmistakable scent, crystalline, pure, ideal for spring and summer but not to be underestimated as a fresh note during the winter, perfect for spraying on the pillow before falling asleep. The persistence is pleasant but weak, a few hours; The sillage is very modest. It is a subtle but highly sophisticated and elegant fragrance, perfect for work and an informal date.
This review is based on a 100ml bottle I own since April 2021.
