the sister called water
The four sisters fire, earth, air and water form a harmonious and important unit and yet each one is an independent personality.
Fire provides warmth, earth nourishes, air keeps everything moving and water is a natural part of it: they were the four elements of creation.
They were all valuable, each one beautiful in its own right; but each one was also enormous and devastating when challenged.
But in general, a more or less peaceful aura surrounded them
Unfortunately not every one: the sister named Wasser was unhappy.
She was clear in nature, transparent and tasteless and odourless: she felt inferior and neglected.
The realization that this was not so did not help: her lovable self clouded over
One afternoon, water strolled next to a little stream she had created through a beautiful sun-drenched landscape. The brooklet enjoyed her company and chatted lively and funny, gurgling with laughter every now and then.
Water but was sad: What was she doing here?

So sadly she met Hubert; unlike water, he enjoyed the present with all his senses.
She lamented him her suffering; her sadness touched him. He also knew that in her condition she would not be easy to convince of her own usefulness, her necessity for creation.
So he took her by the hand; she followed him trustingly
Both reached a small tree-lined garden, a small citrus grove whose ripe fruits shone in their dark green varnished foliage.
Already at this sight, some of the sadness evaporated and water was spinning in circles between the trees; inhaled their scent deeply.
Hubert let them taste the freshness of ripe bergamots and grapefruits: absorb their juice, their fruit flesh and this aromatic scent deeply with all senses. Something changed in water.
Freed from some of her inner chains, she also accompanied Hubert into a densely planted arcade.
How beautifully light and shadow played on the white gravel path, the surrounding leaves and flowers emitted an almost balsamic scent.
The honey-heavy sweetness of the honeysuckle blended wonderfully with the strong white elegance of jasmine: something quite magical was created! Water began to shine; what a feeling flooded through her: fruity freshness and fantastically beautiful flower aromas! She was in a magical place, so its aura was very deep!
She hugged Hubert and danced with him through the arcade.
When he reached the end of it, he conjured up a small vial from one of his pockets: it contained precious sandalwood oil. He left a few drops of it in water, which she almost greedily sucked up!

What had happened to her?
She felt herself, she tasted and she smelled: Was this still the boring transparent water ?
Once again she whirled merrily in a circle; the transparent panels of her light-coloured robe danced around her in a cheerful and fragrant manner.
Suddenly she felt: Something had changed her - she had changed; she was Hubert's water.
Refreshing and light, yet fragrant and enticingly feminine.
Now she knew it: she was "eau de Givenchy"!

A fresh, light and uplifting floral fragrance
Eau de Givenchy is a fresh, light and uplifting floral fragrance.

Its opening is bright and sunny with bergamot, sharp citrus and grapefruit. There is also an added faint touch a mint. Other fruit notes are supposed to be present but I can't say that I get them.

The heart is a bouquet of flower notes: a very natural lily-of-the-valley is joined by jasmine, honeysuckle and rose. The lightness of this fragrance makes it ideal for warm, sunny Spring days.

Longevity is average, but not bad at all for a light floral. The base is woody (sandalwood and cedar) with light touches of musk and moss which add a bit of depth to the drydown.

I wish I could have many bottles of this one.Everything I own from Givenchy is vintage,I must say I have them since the year they came out.About this one the original formula is so aquatic, chic and fresh. The second bottle I bought that one with the golden top I must say I found it more flowery than aquatic and doesn't last long...sorry but they do keep doing reformulations and thats not good for those who really love a unique perfume as this one.

My Ice Princess Fragrance
Eau de Givenchy was my very first perfume, and regarding that with the passage of time the packaging was changed, I suspect that the fragrance has been reformulated as well. I don't know the current version, sold as part of Givenchy's "Mythical" collection, my review refers to the 1980s original, sold in a simple high and square flacon with a dark-blue veined square plastic lid.

At first, Eau de Givenchy smells fresh, delicately flowery, clean and rather cool but lightly spicy as well - maybe that is what some people perceive as soapy. It ist a clear, clean scent, not sexy, not playful either, but reminding of spring, pure and innocent, just like a cold mountain stream splashing through a meadow full of spring flowers.
A virgin whose erotic powers are still sleeping. While the fragrance evolves, sensual notes emerge, a warm woodiness, warmer, more sensual flowers: Behind the cool aloofness sleeps a clear sensuality, but it remains a suggestion.

All in all Eau de Givenchy is a rather cool and reserved fragrance, fresh, friendly and in no way brash or flashy - a fine fragrance for office and business.

Old - not outdated
Eau de Givenchy was released a year before Giorgio, but it could have been a decade.
It's rooted in the 70's and bears more than a passing resemblance to Givenchy III (1970).
But the difference is, with a feather touch of mint and a dusting of castor sugar, Eau de Givenchy lowers the age profile by a generation compared to her older sister. O de G is somewhere between a green chypre, a white muguet and a sugary gourmand but it doesn't lean too much on any one style. It's a nice balance; carefree but not frivolous, old but not dated.

With its light gourmand, O de G anticipates the more youthful perfume that emerged in the 80's. Young women had more disposable income than their 70's counterparts, and when this was allied to an extrovert fashion style, it promoted the use of a more flamboyant perfume than was the case in the economically challenged and somewhat drab 70's. For a sober skirt you might wear a chypre, but with a pink tutu the old codes no longer worked.

O de G moved on from the classic trope of it's 70's sister, but what it didn't do was predict the intensity or direction of the themes that were about to emerge. These were - broadly speaking - reflected by the two big hits of the 80's, the hedonistic tuberose of Giorgio, and the gothic floral of Poison.

O de G was more innocent than either of these, a pretty - and still wearable issue of a classic era.
