A ride through southern Australia immersed in sunlight
I, too, became aware of this perfume house from Australia for the first time through Demi Rawling's Youtube video, which had become almost legendary in the meantime, and which was completely unknown to me before. Since then I have been able to test all fragrances of this manufacturer extensively, sometimes with more and sometimes with less enthusiasm.

Although most of the fragrances are rather negligible, I have to admit that I like Pacific Rock Moss during the summer months. I think Southern Bloom is the best fragrance from Goldfield & Banks, but unfortunately it was too feminine for me in the end
Let's get down to business: At Esxence 2019 the new creation of Creative Director Dimitri Weber was announced and since then it was immediately clear to me that I really wanted it. Only the fact that the fragrance was created in collaboration with perfumer Wessel-Jan Kos and Firmenich left me somewhat sceptical.

However, as it turned out, the scepticism was unfounded. I had suspected that the fragrance might be a little synthetic, but fortunately this is not the case.

As usual, the fragrance wants to tell a story from its homeland. In the foreground this time is the gold acacia (a subfamily of the mimosa family), the national flower symbol of Australia, which is mainly native to the south. The golden colour of the perfume goes hand in hand with this. Velvet Splendour is intended to remind us of a journey through the Australian countryside immersed in sunlight.

The fragrance begins pleasantly floral. In addition to the Australian mimosa, orange blossoms, tangerine and some jasmine can be seen. What follows can probably best be described as a fragrance journey through Australia.

Immediately after spraying, a certain tropical character unfolds, evoked by the fruitiness of orange and mandarin. But this impression evaporates very quickly and the floral components take over. Later, slightly earthy and mineral notes are added. However, these remain in the background.

But that's not all. The fragrance process contains much more. The fragrance becomes spicier after about two hours. Spicy-warm opopanax, the sweetness of tonka bean, heliotrope and Australian sandalwood create a vanilla-like creaminess that accompanies the fragrance to the end.

So this is it, the new fragrance from Goldfield & Banks: floral, woody and creamy. All very beautifully coordinated and with its natural ingredients reminiscent of Australia.

But it's definitely not a summer scent. On late summer evenings it may be wearable, but certainly not in the extreme heat. But for me a great fragrance for spring, when the first plants slowly blossom again. Also for the autumn months it is an extremely suitable smell.

Shimmering mimosa-sandalwood. Dimitri has nailed this one. Not one to overspray on a hot day. Glorious stuff!
