Celebrating Guerlain's 170th Anniversary with an Ode to Lilac
Guerlinade is a powdery floral with a fresh and clean persona. Bergamot and linden blossom give the fragrance a bright and citrusy start. On my skin, lilac is definitely the most prominent floral and it contributes to the fresh and powdery elements of the fragrance. The rose/jasmine combination works in harmony with lilac as the florals dominate the heart of the scent journey. The orris root further enhances the powdery aspect of the fragrance. In the dry down, Guerlain’s quintessential vanilla takes over, semi-sweet, rich and creamy, prolonging the life of the fragrance.
If I am not mistaken, Guerlinade was a limited-edition release in 1998 to commemorate Guerlain’s 170th anniversary. Guerlinade is also the famous signature accord present in numerous Guerlain fragrances, but this fragrance is much simpler compared to most of the classic Guerlain fragrances like Mitsuko, Shalimar and so on. It is quite soft and airy, reminiscent of a skin freshener in Victorian and Edwardian times as a previous reviewer also suggested. Nonetheless, it is rather elegant and undeniably classic in nature, possessing an old-world charm while still being an easy wear in modern times.
Since the perfume was released 24 years ago and only a specific number of bottles were distributed, it is not widely available these days, but you can still find this perfume on eBay occasionally (prices vary). In addition to providing a very pleasant olfactory experience, the antique/vintage flacon and the picturesque full presentation (along with the scroll) take us on a journey back to late 19th century and/or early 20th century. I really enjoy wearing Guerlinade in late spring and summer and it holds a special place in my modest collection.
