The one in the long black
I've always been a Guerlain fan (and I have to admit, even more so when there were still the beautiful, different flacons). I don't like today's uniform mush. The vials are standing around in the cupboard, but still please the eye when using *g*), and sometimes sad, if a scent did not fit to me at all.

Guerlain is a brand that smells different to everyone else, even more than other mainstream manufacturers, I think. So I had to hand over my L'Instant Magic to my mother with a heavy heart (maybe I could try it again after so many years ^^) and was looking for a replacement.

I sprayed happily through the Guerlain offer of Türkisenen, but nothing I liked so 100%.

It was the tip of a lady who was actually there from Guerlain this week, but also to introduce grooming stuff. She asked me about my favorite scents and what I don't like. And then she just said, "Well, test the La Petite Robe Noire. But the coutoure, not the normal one! So the one with the long gown, not the one with the short. And above all: wait and see!" (Yes exactly, I knew that from L'Instant Magic: while the beginning at that time was totally great, at noon it really smelled as if I came from a (SORRY!!!!) nun P*uff! Totally after incense, which of course is not in it, of course. Even my husband told me that at noon. In the morning he was still completely enthusiastic, but then just not anymore.)

And I sprayed and waited.

A wonderful berry (I would have said "cherryy", BEFORE the pyramid was inspected ^^) rose blossomed on me (with a touch of caramel vanilla, but not too strong, later after a lot of fresh fruit (probably the bergamot flap) such a great warmth was added, not a squeaky sweetness, but a really noble praline, which clings to me and earned me quite a lot of compliments, both at work and privately. I didn't feel it in me fruity sweet, but warm-sweet.

Very rarely I buy two 50ml bottles of one fragrance in a row.
This one was such a candidate.
And I was very sad when he was removed from the program, otherwise I might have got myself a third one at that time.

In Rosa Moonboots through the park.....
Sitting on the park bench, spending my lunch break with a well covered sandwich. Watching the people as they strive like ants from A to B. Sometimes strolling and relaxed, sometimes in a hurry and a little stressed. Holding hands or feasting on an ice cream.
Yes, that's how you can live...
So while I'm looking, a very self-confident young woman struts past me.
She's wearing a pretty short skirt. (Matching the weather), a white mesh shirt, which is cut asymmetrically (probably by the big sister?) and in addition bang pink moon boots with pompons. Who jump funny back and forth with every step.
I smile happily at her. She seems not to have expected it and has to prune first. Then she smiles back.

The scent:
The LRN Couture.
is exactly the same He's young and pretty cute.
The raspberry, which one would also let pass as cherry, begins the prelude lively and fruity.
Slightly bizzy in the nose. (Have you ever smelled a citrus fruit with your eyes closed? Something like that: D)

It gets sweeter but a little softer. Gentle and round, I'd say. Probably the rose that the roguish Tonka pinches in the cheek and lovingly embraces the vetiver.
Like the young lady's asymmetric mesh shirt. It makes everything more mature, but still somehow different...

After 1 hour I find the fragrance simply mega class and as surprising as the Moonboots in summer.
The fragrance becomes sensual, almost cuddly and really easy to wear.
He's holding on to me pretty well. About six hours. Then only close to the body but then 3 hours longer.
He'll knock you out if you're too brave to spray. So very perceptible. Otherwise very skin-flattering and sensitive. The dose makes the poison!
And what a surprise it's actually wearable in summer. Otherwise (for not so brave) prefer cooler days.
Conclusion!
A pink moon boat in summer with funny bobbles in the wind.
A good moodFruit for the young at heart, who can also leave 5 straight. And for all those for whom conventions are wonderful Piep Wurscht Schnurz Never mind.

La Petite Robe Noire Couture
Guerlain have long followed the rule that it's better to be good than to be first. Or at least it's better to be the last one standing. Coty Chypre created the genre that defined perfumery in the 20th century. Mitsouko copied the formula, improved it and is now the standard-bearer. Shalimar came on the heels of Coty Emeraude and a number of other huge vanillic/balsamic ambers that were popular at the time. It then surpassed them and became the model of the genre. Coty l'Origan, then Guerlain l'Heure Bleue. Caron En Avion, then Guerlain Vol de Nuit. Even on the men's side, Guerlain's eponymous Vetiver followed Carven's by four years.

The Fruitchouli genre is a somewhat restrained take on the egregious gourmands of late 1990s. The Fruitchouli's emphasis on berry notes makes it technically gourmand in nature, but it is Gourmand 2.0. The questionable goal of smelling like a cupcake was toppled and 'hints of (fill-in-the-blank) berry' became the marketing catch-phrase. In 2009, late in the game, Guerlain entered the fray with La Petite Robe Noire eau de toilette. The reference Fruitchoulis by this time were already dead and gone. Badgely Mischka by Badgely Mischka was discontinued and Miss Dior Chérie had been thoroughly reformulated, flanked and renamed to the point of anonymity. Guerlain went the shell-game route of Miss Dior Chérie, quickly replacing its first version by Delphine Jelk with a similar version by Thierry Wasser, then releasing an eau de parfum. Then came the stream of flankers, each distinguished by a slightly different silhouette of a little black dress on the bottle. Most buyers don't actually know which perfume they actually have.

La Petite Robe Noire Couture is the stand-out of the lot. It is unmistakably a Fruitchouli, but rather than simply following the reduction of the genre (sweetness + berry flavor = perfume) that has become the norm, it benefits from Guerlain's years of twisting patisserie into perfume. It shows its Guerlain DNA in an almost campy exaggeration of its predecessors. Mitsouko's plum is prim next to La Petite Robe Noire Couture's sweet berry cobbler, but the likeness is there. La Petite Robe Noire Couture's dark sweetness is a less restrained play on L'Heure Bleue's bittersweet version of the floral oriental.

La Petite Robe Noire Couture's real precedent, though, is Guerlain Insolence. Insolence was derided as a trite sweet floral that watered down the reputation of the brand. Guerlain's smart move was to beat the criticism by going further over the top, creating Insolence Eau de Parfum. It was a monstrous, laughing fuck-you of a perfume that made critics of the original appear out of step and fussy. If La Petite Robe is considered just the next post-LVMH nail in Guerlain's coffin (also said of l'Instant, Insolence, Idylle, Shalimar Parfum Initial and l'Homme Ideal) the Couture model wades further into the dogfight. The berry compote is simmered down to an even thicker consistency so that Couture's sweetness is denser than the edt's or edp's. It even steals a page directly from Insolence with a touch of a hairspray note that gives Couture a defiantly 'perfumey' quality.

You thought the original Petite Robe Noire was a little déclassé for Guerlain? Try Couture. Modesty is for pussies.

Savoir-faire in a bottle
I was feeling bold enough to try something new whilst at the department store today, and sprayed myself with this generously. It could have gone horribly wrong, but I was pleasantly surprised seeing I have only gotten a few whiffs in passing of the EdP and EdT currently for sale.

I can only make some general comparisons, but Couture is definitely, decidedly darker than either, and completely devoid of any ditziness usually associated with fruity florals and found in the regular versions of LPRN. I am kind of surprised there is no liquorice listed in the official notes, but I suppose it is the intense mossy tonka-patchouli that gives LPRN Couture its depth and darkness; the regular versions are both far sweeter and lighter. I was actually kind of surprised to like them both AND Couture, seeing as I have come to dread rose, but this is a timely reminder that note lists do not make up for the experience of actually smelling a perfume. Also, a reminder that one should never write a perfume off based on its market profile (talking about the LPRN range generally here), as I had dismissed the range beforehand.

La Petite Robe Noire Couture opens with sweet raspberry somewhat tempered with bergamot -- the juicy kind, not the tangy. Patchouli and rose are discernible from the beginning, and rose becomes quite intense over the scent's development. Both are balanced, I think, by the mossy and patchouli notes. LPRN Couture is quite good as fruity florals go, retains a classical vibe (dare I say distinctly Guerlain?) while incorporating heaps of modern savoir-faire, and seems to last a good 5+ hours. Those who found the regular EdP and/or EdT disappointing might enjoy Couture, but you would have to like the basic idea of LPRN.

If I had to assign a personality to this perfume, LPRN Couture would be a model or a dancer, dismissed as a vapid creature of vanity, who nevertheless kept her eyes on the prize and became a successful business woman in her own right. I was somewhat thrown by how much I liked this, or maybe it is pleasure by association -- it had been a lovely day, and it kept on being lovely. Either way La Petite Robe Noire Couture will be associated with happy memories, and is definitely full-bottle worthy for me.
