No surprise, but great as always!
Hello all you fragrance loving creatures, I greet you to one of my typical comments. No wait, when I write "typical comment" I'm sure you're expecting another text full of meanness and how I'm annoyed by perfumas and so on... and then take off right away! Argh! I guess I actually screwed up my reputation here, so I'll have to straighten it out.

New attempt: hello all you lovely perfumas. Greetings to you ladies who are the most beautiful in the world here. And for such sweet and lovely creatures as yourselves, I have a wonderful fragrance with me to introduce. ... too cheesy?

Bah, you're never satisfied either, you dumb beasts!!! Ha! :D
Alright, let's get straight to the point (naaheeeein, ambiguity was not intentional here!). Today I'm going to talk about a Guerlain fragrance, which many people like very much and of which many flankers exist. It's about the Shalimar range, which are very nice scents, though the original scents might seem a bit too old-fashioned for some (or... younger...). Anyway, today I present from this series the (but now discontinued) "Parfum Initial L'Eau" from 2012. Personally, I'm actually expecting a good fragrance, as I've actually liked all of Shalimar's fragrances so far, with my personal favorite being the "Parfum Initial" (not this one, but the one from 2011, unfortunately also discontinued...). However, I can of course recommend any Shalimar. Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly how the one from 2011 smelled in detail, so I can't compare the two scents here. Well, but that doesn't matter, since I'm still trying to describe it as accurately as possible... even if you don't deserve it, you monstrous monsters!!!!

Hey hey :D

The scent:
The Guerlain fragrance starts with beautiful, powdery sweet scents that would have to come from the violets. In addition, there is a citrusy bergamot at the beginning, which radiates a quite fresh aura, especially together with the neroli, which also makes the fragrance much looser than "normal" Shalimar fragrances.
A certain DNA of the Shalimar fragrances is also present, because although not specified, the fragrance nevertheless also has fragrance notes that smell like the original fragrance also incense, opoponax or generally just resins, which is of course very nice and these fragrance notes also fit well with the tonka bean, which soon sets in. Everything smells nice and also not really old-fashioned, even if later with the patchouli (is not specified, but I clearly pick out a patchouli note) also earthy notes begin. These become towards the base, however, again significantly weaker.
In the base, it smells again more like sweeter scents, especially a mix of tonka bean and vanilla, both of which, as always, smell extremely good (and powdery) together and seem very delicious :)

The sillage and the durability:
The sillage is slightly weaker compared to the original and some flankers, but still in the good range. Very far you should not stand, but you also do not need to get very close to be able to smell the fragrance at one. The durability is very good with many many hours (certainly so over ten hours).

The flacon:
To the flacon one must actually now really nothing more say. It looks like a stylized person with wings and looks incredibly good. The neck is thereby thin and on it sits the shapely blue lid on it, which acts with its many facets like a gemstone. In addition, a cord was attached to the neck to make the overall look even more beautiful. I think the Shalimar Flakons belong to the most beautiful fragrance bottles at all!

Conclusion:
Well... what can I say? I honestly almost expected to smell a good fragrance anyway and I was not disappointed. I think this Shalimar can also fully convince and is worth a test for all times. Of course, some do not like Shalimar at all, that is so similar to Chanel No. 5, which is also a beautiful, but also quite strong and today but so quite old-fashioned coming across fragrance that not everyone finds great.

The Shalimar here is in itself a good mix of old-fashioned flair with modernity, where the modernity predominates, since one smells fragrance notes such as patchouli rather less and the old-fashioned share often lingers more in the background. Either way though, the fragrance is very nice and I would recommend everyone to give it a try. Well, of course, that will be difficult, since the fragrance is no longer available, but you are welcome to test all the other Shalimars times, which are, in my opinion, all very good.

Usable this one is very good in autumn and winter and is suitable in addition to its function as a cuddly fragrance also very good for going out, because it smells good and also comes across elegant.

Well then, that's it once again. Should I say goodbye nicely or badly? Hmm.... :D
I think both! Well then, so long you lovely... BIESTER! :D

The Mona Lisa of fragrances
What do I associate with the Mona Lisa? First of all, old venerability. And immediately afterwards, timelessness. There's a certain contradiction in that. And it doesn't stop with this one, because she smiles and she doesn't smile. She's looking at you and she's not looking at you. Because although you think her gaze is for you and you can only look at one person at a time, the one next to you thinks she is looking at him. Her name is Mona Lisa, in Italian La Gioconda, those are female names, but the painting does not show a clear gender.

So venerable, timeless, contradictory, serious and yet smiling, unisex, a mystery like the Mona Lisa, Shalimar Initial L'Eau seems to me as well.

At first glance, the picture and scent seem so simple: a single woman dressed in plain clothes against a background of little complexity. No accessories. And a fragrance with ubiquitous notes of citrus, jasmine, vanilla and tonka. No attachment.

But appearance is here punished lies. If one looks and smells more closely, then both know how to fascinate. And what fascinates is difficult to describe in both cases:
On the one hand, it is quite as expected: I smell fresh, very natural-looking citric notes, jasmine with some indole and soft, also natural-looking vanilla with tonka. First of all, it is surprising that the citrus does not disappear with the top note, but remains strong and present. Then I am amazed by a jasmine that appears translucently light, strangely clean and dirty at the same time.
With each use Shalimar Initial L'Eau seems to unfold more depth and more facets.
He keeps a perfect balance between citrus-fresh and cozy, between cool and warm, between light-blooded and dark-animal. It is a distinguished, rather unsweet scent, but nevertheless cheerful - or not? Is he rather cautiously gloomy with a few portions of Schalk, who flashes through jasminanimalisch?

It is an old-looking fragrance that is timelessly modern. A contradictory scent that smiles and yet does not smile. Unisex. A masterpiece.
Thanks, Mkshadow, for letting me get to know this fragrance.
Thanks, Katt007, for finding his way into my collection.

Parfum Initial-The Younger Sister Of Shalimar EdP, Wistful And Fleeting
So disappointing for my favorite old friend, my Shalimar. Initial is so young, so bold but yet so shy. Initial comes on strongly, visits for a bit, chatters voraciously as usual with her sweet notes, then exits almost as quickly as she entered the room. She's pretty, she's sweet to be around, but you cannot depend on her at all. She's just too young and innocent, batting her eyes flirtatiously, sweeping her skirts, then running away leaving a trail so faint you hardly remember she's been there.
She is nothing like her older sister. She's pink after all. But then again, no one could ever compare to the original. And no one should ever try to compare, but unfortunately, because of the name, the comparison constantly occurs.
Shalimar Initial to Shalimar Eau de Parfum gives me these analogies: silver jewelry to gold; ponies to thoroughbreds; ponytails to chignons; fields to the moors; pantyhose to garter belts and stockings; pink to a deep burgandy; young lady to a woman. It's the inexperienced younger sister of Shalimar that hasn't yet garnered the worldly knowledge needed to attract the sensual, deeper, basal desires of a Significant Other. She's just too wistful and fleeting.
Initial is beautiful as others have said. I enjoy the delightful fragrance, slightly reminiscent of the original in a more fruitful way to me. But this one lasts no more than an hour on my skin. Try as I might, I cannot get the musk or patchouli or the vanilla from this to settle for me, it simply disappears. I wish it would linger longer. I really do love the fragrance. I really do love the house of Guerlain.
Definitely try it a few times at a counter to see how it blends with your own body chemistry.

Most beautiful Guerlain Iris note.. sure! To me at least!:=)
First I read the comment text on the packaging of Shalimar L'eau, quoting Jaques Guerlain "A burst of freshness revealing one of the most beautiful Guerlain Iris notes.." And surely to my nose it is! I love the original Shalimar version, all of them except Ode Vanille. Shalimar Initial was wonderful with the great earthy patchouli note in there.. but I guess this one Shalimar L'eau will appeal to more people because of missing this strong and sometimes strange notes (Caramel!)of the Original Initial version. In Initial'Leau there s only a splashing green freshness of Bergamote, Grapefruit and Neroli.. and then not long after these fresh opening the Iris kicks in, warm , powdery, caressing , flowery ..so much enhanced by the rose .. My dream combi! Iris, Rose, Tonakabean, Vanille, always a winning combination for me! And yes, there s a fine sweetness to it of course through the vanilla and tonka, but that s to a great effect, never sickening sweet only flowery, powdery. Also a great iris-rose combi is Burberry Body Intense.. but that s another story and somehow sweeter then Initial L'eau. I m not very often disappointed by a new Guerlain, this one no exception. Only downside point : it s an EDT and not as long living as some would wish, but 3-4 hours will do. Needless to add: Totally LOVE IT!

I LOVE Shalimar Initial - this one is unfortunately a bit more sweet florally, but still a lot better than most perfumes!
