on a cool note
My girlfriend had sent me Terracotta Voile d`ete with a sure instinct - a scent that I had long had on my secret wish list.

But the girlfriend has the 7th sense and surprised me with this wish fragrance.

For days I looked only at the bottle, too afraid to falsify the scent by the heat.
But now it has cooled down to a tolerable level - and I dare to spray.

Its soft earthiness is cooled by the mint and Eichendorff's "In a cool ground" comes to mind.
Yes, I look at the cottage with the rotating water wheel that moistens the loose good earth.
A colourful farmer's garden surrounds the cottage - and jasmine, roses, ylang and lilies grow wild and untamed.
But nature arranges everything in the most tasteful way with a light hand.
No gardener could arrange it better, no painter could stage it better.
The sight and the flowery scent harmonize perfectly.
The edge of the forest exhaled greenery, mixed with powdery iris and soft vanilla.

That may be how Spitzweg painted this romantic idyll.

On a cool ground
There goes a mill wheel
My love has disappeared,
Who lived there.

A certain sentiment also emanates from the full, moist, earthy scent - which makes it even more attractive.

One should read the poem in its entirety, if one is in a stable mood.
The fragrance, on the other hand, can always be worn - especially if you are a romantic.

best carnation perfume!
This is the most luscious carnation perfume ever created.
I truly adore Voile D'Ete,not just because it was made by master J.P.Guerlain by also from the very first sniff it screamed SUMMER and HOT SAND!
Yes.. high temperatures, beach, hot sand and lots lots of carnation and jasmine flowers..
Slightly ambery sweetness with some spicy ylang ylang and peppery hints.

The bottle has a very vintage appearance and it looks wonderfull near the other bottles of your collection!

Woman in a Gold-Ring Embellished White Mesh Bikini, Her Skin Shimmering Brown-Orange from Bain de Soleil
Guerlain's VOILE D'ETE, like METEORITES, appears to have been a fragrance launched after it had been used successfully to scent a cosmetics line. This floral-amber (if that's not a category, it should be!) edt opens as very, very floral, but in an intriguing way. Ylang ylang makes the dominant carnation a bit darker than it would otherwise be, so this smells nothing like the floats at a parade.

In fact, VOILE D'ETE evolves into an entirely different, amber skin scent, with carnations always detectably present, but vanilla inching in to moderate the ylang ylang. This is not, contrary to the listed notes, a linear perfume. Nor is it possible to believe that amber and vanilla are not present in significant proportions! My associative memory of TOCADE with VOILE D'ETE was of their drydowns: both are amber vanilla, with the vanilla much more prominent in TOCADE than in VOILE.

Compared to Fendi's THEOREMA, VOILE D'ETE is not at all spicy, although next to TOCADE it seems somewhat more so because of the carnation/ylang ylang opening.

All in all, I'd say that VOILE D'ETE is aptly named. The image here, however, is more that of a walk down the oceanfront at Cannes. Or perhaps this is Saint Tropez? Yes, I believe that is it: the woman with huge tortoise shell sunglasses and a big floppy hat lying on a lounge chair next to the water in her gold ring embellished white mesh bikini, her skin shimmering brown-orange from Bain de Soleil!

Gorgeous Guerlain
A wonderful true carnation opening, lightly spiced and warm with the Guerlain amber, vanilla dry down that quietly melts into and becomes part of my skin. This final phase lasts for such an incredibly long time on me I couldn't believe this was an EDT. The bottle is also really lovely with its little conical hat.

Like Estee Lauder did a summer version of Youth Dew Amber Nude, only Estee Lauder would make it stronger and last longer.
Voile d'Ete Terracotta (Terracotta Veil of Summer) is a suitable summer fragrance for those who like orientals and heavier fragrances the rest of the year. I'd classify it as a light oriental. The carnation and the ylang-ylang come through clear for me. The heliotrope makes it a bit powdery but it's not over done. The spices are at a low level. Voile d'Ete has a vanilla base, perhaps a bit of amber, and just a bit of distinctive Guerlanade that we've come to expect.

However, I'm a little mystified by Voile d'Ete in Guerlain's Terracotta line-up of personal care items (make-up, fragrance, lotion, nail polish). I've read some reviews comparing the scent to baked earth and clay bricks, but I don't sense that at all - that's too scorching hot imo.

Is Terracotta Summer Veil warm? Yes.
Is it suitable for warm days? Yes.
Is it reminiscent of a late summer day? Yes.
Is the juice a terracotta color? Yes.
Does it smell like baked earth & clay bricks? No.

Unfortunately, not only is the scent discontinued, but it is not long-lasting either - only a couple hours. My first big disappointment with the lasting quality of a Guerlain fragrance, although I otherwise adore the impression of this scent. It's one of my favorites in late Summer into early Fall, but I rarely wear it any other time of year.

Note: The top is a stopper. My bottle came with a sprayer, but the top is not used when the sprayer is in place. The bottle is not very attractive this way.
