Golden amber precious artwork
Halston Amber is a terrific Oriental Woody masculin fragrance, with niche quality and superb blending.
I blind bought it after being really impressed with same brand Z-14. Halston is not sold in my country so I blind bought it on line (in a US store).
It opens in a very shy way with the top citrus and thyme notes having difficulty in dominating the evaporating alchool. In my modest opinion, this alcohol initial burst is the only fault of this perfume but it lasts for less than thirty seconds.
Some minutes later you notice the growing scent of sweet myrh and amber (not overly sweet). You actually feel that accord lingering in the air around you. It stays pungent (in a good way) and persists through the appearance of the bottom notes (mainly oud and sandal) to calmly hand over the control to the long and captivating woody dry down, with the oud note compleatly tamed.
If you forget the not so in control opening, this fragrance is a lesson of notes extreamly well blended, with an above average longevity, an average to above average sillage and a normal projection.
In all stages the fragrance reveals class and sophistication. Supreme quality and a general "expensive" feeling is quite evident.
It's my best blind purchase ever. How do I rate my signature fragrance?
________________________________________________________________________________________________
- Scent opening............9.0 (my judgement; I took 1 point due to the initial alcohol burst)
- Scent Dry Down........10.0 (my judgement, classy and hard to beat as an Oriental /Woody)
- Longevity....................8.0 ( >8 hours, 3 initial sprays)
- Sillage..........................7.0 (sillage peak at 5~6 feet, projection for 2+ hours)
- Versatility....................9.0 (just avoid very hot days; )
- Usability......................9.0 (very good for almost any situation; superb for fancy events and intimacy; don't use it in places where you may sweat like the gymn or by the seaside)
- Compliments..............9.0 (very serious compliment grabber)
- Uniqueness.................9.0 (some minor similarities with some other upscale fragrances like ST Dupont Royal Amber)
- Quality.........................9.0 (it smells very expensive and classy. It really competes with fragrances I have that cost five times more than Halston's Amber; very good over all quality)
- Presentation..............9.0 (beautiful bottle; it really stands out in my drawer; not many people know about this fragrance and everyone that looks at my collection asks about thisone and the John Varvatos Oud flask)
- Price...........................10.0 (€17,50 for 125 ml, with VAT and shipping included; it's not a tester.)

Wonderful
Excellent. VERY similar to 24 Gold by Scent story, except this one has a bit more of a masculine edge to it. Well worth buying.

Halston Goes Oud
Modern, woody and most assuredly... balmy. First impression is that of Armani Prive Ambre Soie, but far from linear. Halston Amber is not loud, but it is far from quiet. Throughout its transitions, each layer of notes are given abundant time to be vibrant. As we soar deeper into the dry-down the oud begins to cape the fragrance, but domesticated by bergamot and Virginia cedar. Myrhh is raw, but is a team player here. The more the middle and base settles, the more of a Middle Eastern vibe I get... and more is better. Even the bottle looks the part. I'm not a Halston fan, but I'm proud to have this among my collection.
