A Surprisingly Pleasant Scent
It is surprisingly a pleasant scent, which I like quite a lot, it is BOSS Selection from Hugo Boss. Hugo Boss is known for producing some great fragrances, from the pillar original HUGO Man to the flankers, Boss Bottled, The Scent, as well as many more. I think that Selection offers something unique and pleasant to smell, something different from the rest of the colognes in my collection.
BOSS Selection welcomes you with a blast of the lively, green, and leafy accord. It is fresh, wet, like the morning dew on the grass. Soon a sweet, spicy pink peppercorn jumps in, together with a gentle touch of hesperidic mandarin and bittersweet grapefruit, not all too citrus. Thus, the opening results refreshing without too much zesty vibe, it's a quite refined style of citrus, and you can detect a hint of musk and spice and a beautiful warm woody floral accord that lasts quite well on my skin.
At the heart of the fragrance, the traditional and refined fougère theme has been reinterpreted with geranium and cedar leaves, enlightened by star anise and petitgrain, expressing a clear and distinctive masculine character. The abundance of cedar, in leaf and wood forms, creates a slightly camphorous feel that, when married to the musk, creates an almost animalistic edge.
The magnetic woody dry-down of patchouli, vetiver, and facets of cedarwood is rounded out by the softness of heliotrope and modern laundry musky notes creating a smart, authentic signature. Even after the dry down, the top notes of grapefruit and mandarin orange were still in evidence, along with a spicy edge. I would describe the base as mossy, with a dominant musk, and feeble patchouli, which does not overwhelm other notes but adds a bit of darkness, and a slight touch of earthy vetiver.
It's crisp, soft, clean, summery and exotic, BOSS Selection is a light style of scent, making it perfect to wear during the daytime, at the office, or just out and about in the city. It's quite a grown-up style of smell, and you get the greens' instant hints, the leafy accord shine through initially. It will not offend; it's strong enough to be noticed without being overbearing. As for longevity, you can expect to get a right half a day from this one quickly. I prefer to wear it during the Spring days.
This review is based upon a decanter I own and tested on my skin.
Stay well; stay healthy.
