A Modern Juice Here and Now
The range of Boss colognes is quite broad, with Hugo Man a recognizable scent thanks to its fresh notes and its gourd-shaped fiasco, so much a classic that it was followed by many flankers, and Urban Journey joins the collection. It stands out for its fresh side and its green and watery notes. A flanker that stick out from the Hugo Man original composition by having its own olfactory universe. The bottle, inspired by the cans of the soldiers, this time is adorned with a smooth bluish-grey dress, whose texture is reminiscent of that of concrete and stone like it's coated in sand, the urban soil I bet, same screw cap with a black ribbon.
There are many notes stated in the olfactory pyramid, and Urban Journey is not a linear perfume, though a woody aromatic cologne, which ranges between a floral head, an aqueous and leathery heart, and a woody and mossy base. Urban Journey welcomes you with a very pleasant and reasonably balanced floral and green accord. The combination of zesty orange fruit, with a hint of spicy cardamom, and the citrusy freshness of the rare mountain Himalayan whorlflower blossom produces an aroma that has some Hesperides facets, quite close to that of tangerine peel. It's a bit tasty and reminds me of most of the original Hugo Man's DNA. However, it opens up citrus and fruity, the cardamom is nearly perceivable, it's addictive.
The heart unveils aromatic facets of fresh black tea tinged with drops of aquatic freshness. It has a strong, slightly bitter smell, with a smoky overtone. The result of organic black tea and synthetic cascalone, an aroma chemical that adds a sea breeze or marine note to the concoction, is gorgeous, still green, with the soul that comes from the vibrancy of the Indian tea leaves, I did not expect it.
Finally, the dry-down delivers fairly discreet woody notes of creamy, slightly rosy, with honeyed-sweet sandalwood, which matches with raw guaiac wood, a robust incensed tone lightly smoky and waxy-oily. But the base is not all too woody, there is a tinge of mossiness given by the oakmoss, or better the artificial substitute of it. The overall base is comforting and quieting, it does not scream boisterous. In the final phase, the fragrance retains a citrus presence. Still, it feels different from the traditional notes of grapefruit, lemon or orange, staying close to a slightly salty cold water and ozone tint, with some warm sections of musk.
I don't think it is all too artificial or scratchy. It grabs the attention without being too loud while relying on the subtle blending of its few dominant notes. Both sillage and performance are averages, more than half a day on my skin and clothes. The fragrance does not fill the room but moves when you move. Perhaps, it is targeted towards a teenage audience. Still, I do like it. The incredible freshness makes Urban Travel suitable for milder months, Spring and Summer seasons fit the best. It is a daily safe, sophisticated, and casual fragrance, for leisure time, sports, as well as office, or school, why not? Urban Journey is just right, neither too bold and heady for this climate, not too airy and not long-lasting enough.
This review is based upon a 75ml bottle I own.
Stay well; stay healthy.
