A perfume from 2018 explains a tragedy from 1604 to me. But of course that's no reason to wear the fragrance.
Just like Othello's mind, the darkness of this fragrance is not cloudy, it is all dark, but frighteningly and beautifully clear. Othello speaks in all seriousness of murdering his wife, and yet his imagery and language are poetic in the extreme. An indication of the emotional state, the intensity of the love Othello feels for Desdemona and what is at stake for him.
Oud and sloe form an exciting sweet-sour-animalic opening. In addition, there is amber described as black, dark dahlia, black pepper and very nicely perceptible for me black spruce, which adds and strengthens this dark kind of clarity. I soon perceive all of this at the same time. With terrifying clarity and calm.
The fragrance hardly changes on me, so I experience it differently to some people here so far. I perceive it as a snapshot of this reflection before the act, a moment in which everything shoots together, everything is there at once. Endless love, remembered and disappointed hope, betrayal, jealousy, fear. Everything in the dark. And absolutely clear.
And this moment lasts forever. For me, the fragrance lasts a very long time.
