(Rouge) Red is the Lucky Color for the New Year
A long time ago, a mythical beast called Nián Shòu would come to devour livestock and people around Chinese New Year. Luckily, Nián Shòu was sensitive to loud noises and afraid of the colour red. Hence, it became a new year tradition to light firecrackers, hang red lanterns and red scrolls on windows or doors and perform Chinese Lion Dance.
In China, red relates to fire and energy and has come to symbolize vitality, celebration, good fortune, good luck, and prosperity. Today, as for celebrating the new year 2018, I decided to wear Jacomo de Jacomo Rouge, what else?
Jacomo de Jacomo Rouge opens up with a slightly citrus, spicy, and balsamic aroma, here both the green cardamom and the fresh mint are dominant, covering a bit the lemon. There is something in the full fragrance that reminds me of another famous cologne, but I am not sure at this early stage. I will be back later.
After nearly a few minutes the scents turns into a more floral and woody accord, cyclamen plays well with lily-of-the-valley, and that twosome blends harmoniously with cedar and sandal. The more it goes on, the more it reminds me of a similar fragrance I used to wear in the past years.
It is roughly one hour later that the dry down starts kicking in. At this stage, the fragrance is bittersweet, gourmand, animal, with some hints of smokiness and dirtiness, yet so firm and confident, warm and durable enough for this coldest winter's days. The keynotes in the base that let this breath are the incense, the patchouli, and musk. While the oriental notes seem prominent with the touch of light gourmand in a very tasteful praline note with powdery vanilla...it is not cloying, not at all.
Everything here is so soft. Not one note shines through and takes the reigns as the captain, maybe some are more dominant, though not overwhelming the others. Every single detectable note complements the one before it and after it. There are no harsh, super synthetic, cloying notes. Jacomo de Jacomo Rouge is a lovely soothing perfume with the vibe a bit similar to JPG Le Male (yep, here we go!) but I think it's totally a different scent altogether. It is not as strong and sweet as Le Male, same empathy, but more wearable, perfect for office and leisure. I do not see a specific age range, any man who likes it could and should wear it if Le Male is one of his flavours!
