Le Loden - Green in all shades and moods
The fragrance is green, but so different from the green fragrances I've been able to get to know. It's not the magic green of 'Ninfeo Mio'. No tender spring green and no summer sun green. Not the milky fig leaf green of 'Ichnusa'. Not the slightly withered salad green of 'Panorama' and not the favourite leather hay green of 'Irish Leather'.
Le Loden starts off dry and smoky. More vetiver is hardly possible. A dark, austere olive green, streaked with grey-green streaks and dry smoke. A deciduous forest floor in winter, and clouds of smoke pass between lifeless dark trees.
But then the seasons seem to move backwards. The deep dark greyish-green slowly develops somewhat warmer nuances. Life comes timidly into the forest. Autumn is slowly approaching. Spicy wood resin notes and next door stubble fields are burned. Juniper and pink pepper berries have these typical resinous notes, in addition there is something subtle sweet, perhaps it is the rose geranium. Towards the end, the fragrance becomes softer and more conciliatory. Fortunately Ylang-Ylang doesn't get through, it just functions as a discreet counterweight to patchouli and tobacco. And still vetiver. For hours. An adult, thoughtful green that could please Yatagan...
