Sweet-and-Sour musky woody thing with Incense
Olivier Gillotin produces better results when he works with other people; Tobacco Oud and Tobacco Vanille are his, both directed by Tom Ford, and these and White Diamonds – which he did with Carlos Benaim – are all popular on Basenotes (with more than 60% positive ratings). On the other hand, things that he does on his own – Polo Red and Higher for example – tend to do less well. (There are exceptions to the rule of course, but after a look at his portfolio that’s the impression I get.)
I would put Fath pour l’Homme in the same category as Polo Red : too sweet. It’s built around a standard woody citrus, with incense – which works in that context; and
florals, and a huge dose of ambery sweetness backed up by coumarin – which don’t.
The sweetness goes against the drift of the woody citrus and they just don’t get along. It develops into a sweet-and-sour musky woody thing with incense, which is not too pleasant, and certainly too challenging for the guys it's meant for.
In my opinion, that’s the reason why it has disappeared.

Torn apart
My opinion is based on decant I have bought some time ago, and it seems based on performance it is the version after re-formulation. I would love to try the original release year version sometime in the future.

It is a lovely complex scent being between sweetness and dryness. It is like you are in your middle ages still having your boy spirit but on another hand, you know that time flies and you see that you're getting older and older day after day. This is how this scent develops, between being easy a bit sporty, the relaxed sweet cherry one, but once it's mature after about hour it more and drier, woody and definitely more classic. You still remember wearing sneakers and jeans and having parties in the middle of the week. But know, you wear shirts and formal uniforms and occasionally drink wine during the weekends. But you still have it, and when there is time you can show it.

Unfortunately, I believe my version is after re-formulation as parameters are pretty bad, after 30-40 minutes it is skin only scent with zero projection. Where some people said vintage versions last very long with excellent projections.

What also happens to me is for the first 5-10 minutes you can fill hydrogen sulfide notes, which might mean that the storage of the original bottle was not great.

~ Sweet & Spicy Gentleman ~
~ A sweet and spicy gentleman is how she'll perceive you as she pulls your warm sillage in close. This is a great unknown and I hope it remains there! The citrus and spice opening just reaches out and instantly makes you straighten up, adjust your tie and walk with a quiet confidence! You literally bask in it's amber and woods with just a hint of lavender in Fath's charming drydown! Throughout it's scent life there persists just the perfect amount of sweetness wafting without being overly cloying. There are so many praise worthy adjectives that you could attach to this quiet masterpiece as it really is just that good! This is a big thumbs-up endorsement so if you're reading and researching just discover this one for yourself and write your own flattering review (or just keep it to yourself) you won't be disappointed!
Kind Regards, Plat ~
Overall - For the Scent and Longevity alone this is worth a bottle costing three times as much!

Too powdery!
I could not stand the smell of this cologne. The amber is too powdery and it is very cloying. It gives me a headache. I gave the bottle to my bro-in-law.

Sweet tonka, raspberry musk. Like a flat vanilla-cherry Coke - very sweet, but with a vintage feel. A casual goodie for the dandy gentleman.
