First of all I would like to remark:
The presentation of Jean-Michel's Duriez, "Double-fond" reminds him of magnificent salons in Versaille, where the air is impregnated with wood, spices and flowers, I can't quite share them.
Maybe it's because I, as a woman, feel differently sensual and therefore already lack the imagination of flowers in this really extraordinary fragrance composition
My generation still knows the heavy, impressive mahogany cupboard walls that dominated the mostly too low new apartments from the seventies on.
The rich shine of this noble wood with its reddish but dark grain was something special.
The sensual contact of touching was forbidden at that time: the front surfaces were polished and every handprint was frowned upon!
Mahogany as wood and hue has always retained its special charm.
One often reads in novels about the "dark brown mane with the mahogany red lights" of a protagonist (unless she is "excitingly blond" or "racy redheaded").
This rich dark wood note dominates this fragrance, which is also quite quickly interspersed with a fiery reddish glow - very elegant!
The bergamot refreshes briefly before a troika of rustic forest, meadow and kitchen herbs appears: rosemary, basil and thyme, each in oil form, successfully assert themselves against the noble wood aroma.
The result is a strong, spicy and noble woody fragrance melange, which I have not yet encountered in this form (if I remember correctly).
This dark depth fascinates with its always flickering scent facets, which seem to burn off a very own fireworks display.
Therefore, it is good to dust this mighty perfume over with a rich cocoa aroma.
The dark-red glowing fire is not extinguished by this, but it is put in its place: the previously created scent power becomes elegant again, but remains sparkling!
"Double-fond" is like Jean-Michel Duriez himself describes his fragrance creation before he emotionally goes to Versaille: woody, strong and lively!
As if this precious wood would be cultivated by the added herbs, a gentle breath of honey develops, as my nose finds it in particularly fine furniture polish.
For me, "Double-fond" is a fragrance that needs darkness to really shine: long afternoons at fireplaces with stimulating conversations that turn into nights of felt infinity are definitely his home; there he will feel comfortable!
