The sporty walk in the woods
My first Jo Malone fragrance. Completely unagitated, it comes in a simple bottle without glitter and airs. The name "English Oak & Redcurrant" makes me think of a dreamy southern English cottage, which stands in a beautiful garden with old oak trees. The scent makes me feel like I'm sitting on one of those old oak trunks, lost in thought, playing with the slightly damp, yet warm, mossy bark. I stroll over to the currant bushes. The berries there are only pale red, and will need another 14 days of sun. Lost in thought, I take a currant leaf and grind it between my fingers...next to it is a lovage bush, here too I grind a leaf and enjoy the spicy tartness. Then I walk briskly on through the oak avenue - the scent of the currant leaf with the scent of lovage and the oak bark accompany me on this mild early summer day.
This is the story that comes to mind about the scent. It is completely different from my otherwise preferred direction. He is green - tart - unsweet fruity - spicy.
Rose remains with me completely far away. For me, green-tart, woody, spicy notes dominate here. It is a nature scent. The currants I perceive here as unripe, rather still the green of the currant leaves.
The silage is present but unobtrusive. He holds with me 7 hours.
For me, this is an early summer scent.
And I've often wondered what kind of perfume you should wear to sports, for heaven's sake, if you were to do any.... i've got it! This one! This fragrance I would choose for sports activities.
Conclusion: an unusual for me, but interesting fragrance. By the tart already almost something masculine.
Certainly with me no all-day favorite, but nice to have also something like this in the collection.

A Sunday afternoon in the garden
We sat in the back of the garden on iron chairs - some of them already slightly rusty, with cushions made of Toile de Jouy. And because there were so many of us, somebody had added a few formerly white wicker chairs. The strawberry cake and the cream had been eaten, the coffee in the porcelain jug with the spout that had miraculously survived the war was long cold. The children camped with the dogs on the lawn, the grandparents blinked in the basket chairs into the afternoon sun. The scented vetches were the crooked fence that screened the garden from the neighbouring property, crawled along the May, the summer wind roared in the old oak tree that had been rocked by three generations - and we wondered how long it would take before we could harvest the first ripe prickly pears and currants. And above all was the sweet scent of the climbing roses, dazzling and tender and lovely - like a gift.

Not always, but often the fragrances from Jo Malone 'work' with pictures, memories, ideas like this - at least that's how it seems to me. Many of her perfumes explicitly address British themes, but the garden formed by English Oak & Redcurrant in my nose could just as well be in a different area - much more important than its topographical location are its immanent silence and peace and quiet. A bit of red fruit to start with - for someone like me who doesn't like berry notes in perfumes, a very harmless red fruit - a medium-strong rose, a brittle, sober wood chord. It doesn't take anything more to outline this garden, the summer wind in the oak leaves, the dogs on the lawn and the children laughing - and the porcelain coffee pot, which was miraculously not lost during the war. And that's all a perfume needs - its only purpose is to amuse, entertain, charmingly accompany.

Conclusion: no great fragrance, not everyone wants to be and doesn't have to be. But one for all those who yearn for that garden - for a few hours only - under the old oak tree at the back of the fence, which is overgrown with vetches.
