Berlin, Berlin, we beam to Berlin
"Berlin by Joop is a legend. Not as big as the fragrance deserves, but it is a sorely missed legend. Nationally and internationally. Almost the ladies' equivalent of "Relax". And at the same time (despite great tuberose tableau) not even as "damig" as one might think.

"Berlin" is a powdery tuberose sunshine, which simply makes mood. And to which there are actually no alternatives to this day. A world city fragrance. Elegant, thick, a little dirty. Full of character, full of kick. That presses in the nose, that has mass and class. Too heavy for summer, surprisingly fluffy and un-sweaty for a tuberose nonetheless. Gourmand bass, a Brandenburg Gate of clove vanilla. A fragrance that speaks volumes and has tradition. Love Parade still without a shadow. 90s with thick ovaries. A boost from Berlin, a boom from the capital. It survives the time in the hearts of many people, to whom it came under the nose then as now. Impeccable. Legendary as said rather. Mushy fruit chypre with edge and warmth. The bosom of the homeland.

Flacon: simple Joop, but somehow iconic
Sillage: potent, but no Übertuberose
Durability: 10 hours - Made In Germany

Conclusion: perhaps the best, powderiest tuberose that ever disappeared from the mainstream market. An absolute waste!

A piece of history
Joop Berlin was one of those fragrances that came onto the market around the time of reunification. Back then, Germany was full of euphoria - the welcome money flowed, perfumeries sprang up like mushrooms even in the new federal states, great fragrances were also born under the German flag. I already had a lot of interest in perfumes, but I was still too young (and stupid!) to realize that these Joops, Bogners and Jil Sanders were also great. For me, France was Mecca when it came to high-quality fragrance creations. Berlin was actually a Mercedes among many Renaults and Citröens...well, Guerlain, Rochas, Dior and so have also created fantastic scents in this era, but Berlin, as well as the other Joop stroke of genius Nuit d'Èté, were world class. Only now, when they are rare and if still intact, comparatively expensive compared to back then, has it all become clear to me. Lightning flags, but honestly.
Berlin is a unique scent, none resembles it. The composition is typical of the 90s, a little noisy, but still noble and suitable as a daily fragrance. Easy to overdose as it is a power house, long lasting and of high value. The notes are so ingenious and interwoven that they can hardly be unravelled. A light, oriental sweetness on a bed of fruity hints, a few flowers scattered here and there and fine sandalwood in the base. Sounds boring? Not at all. He has that certain touch. In some places I suggest an echo of Femme by Rochas, but then again subliminally the good old Chloé, or Ysatis by Givenchy. It is not really like any of them, but still has the best of them all.
Perfect. Perfect.
Masterpiece.
Thanks to the lovely Parfumo, who reunited us both, Berlin and me.

Fuck women's scent.....her with the swill; flashback to the first own place
Although Joop Berlin is or was a women's fragrance, I loved it so much that I wore it. I agree with Turandot, also for my nose the top scent of Uncle Jöpchen. ;-)

Mega recognition value and wearable at any occasion and season.

It may sound trivial, but this shrill yellow bottle or the content made me totally curious. I couldn't help myself and had to sniff around.....ingeniously in my nose.

It's a pity it doesn't exist anymore

Angels over Berlin...
Rumour has it that every time Angel is visiting Berlin, she falls on her knees and kisses the ground while whispering:
"Mother..."
A melancholic wraith of a rose is watching from the aisles...

First Kiss of Summer
Berlin is a potent brew. I use a very small spritz and give it at least a half hour to settle.
It's as if I'm sitting in a small garden of well-tended flowers, paring succulent fruits gathered upon my lap. The garden is warm and sunny to the point where you can smell the stone pathway, bees amble from bloom to bloom. This would all be too sweet if not for the anchor of amber and sandalwood, but rather than grounding the perfume completely they cooperate with the sweetness. It all hovers a few feet off the ground, lifting me up.

It's a springtime perfume, a happy perfume, a scent for first dates laughing and sashaying through the park. I wouldn't wear this on a day I was feeling less than optimistic, however; some perfumes can lift my mood when I'm down, but Berlin would be the friend that simply could not let me be sad to the point of becoming obtrusive.
