Twilight Zone Between Clean and Sexy
This Musk is quite unusual and very classy. If you are familiar with Keiko Mecheri's Line, you are certainly aware that some of the compositions are abstract interpretations of Serge Lutens' pieces. Some reviewers have made comments to the effect that if you've tried X by Serge Lutens, than this is watered down, sheer version of it by KM. I think this is balderdash, because mimicry is the most sincere form of flattery, for sure so I see no fault in that! Keiko Mecheri always adds a unique twist even when similarities persist. With this musc, though, I don't think I've come across anything similar, this is not a replicate- it is an entirely new life form.
Admittedly, I am a clean white musk groupie. I realize that is akin to boldly stating that I love Rosé wine in these days of rich complexity, skanky Egyptian musk fever and a bold return to vintage styled hardcore dark musks. But I am still floating on a ephemeral cloud of clean white musk. White musks are truly clouds for me, and I study them endlessly because I feel so comfortable in some of them, but I don't claim any expertise- they are simply enigmatic. I own about eight white musk focused scents. I love two of them- Musc 25 from Lebo and Profumo Osmo- Musc Bleu, I tolerate one of them Laurence Dumont Tarragon-centric Musc Blanc and I secretly wear the thrifty Jovan White Musk, but refuse to admit it. The rest fall somewhere along this spectrum. Entire Keiko Mecheri's Musc. This musk was not a immediately appealing to me when I blind bought it (I know, I know) last year. Then I blind bought I bottle labeled Muskiris from KM, which is indeed the same juice. So now I've got a life time supply of this scent...I'm trying to wrap my mind around its hidden beauty. As I discovered yesterday, it is a very smooth, sophisticated take on a clean, but not white, musk. No powder in this one (which is probably why I rejected it initially. I sense a Iris butter note on top and the musk is not cuddly, but not dirty or skanky either. It is more like an urban musk that develops in a high quality fine leather jacket mixed with a golden musk scent. This musk kind of glistens for me, is confident, not dryer sheets and not house mommy clean. It's corporate Attorney clean and slightly aggressive with out being too loud on the projection. Keiko Mecheri's musc is a refined, slick urban leathery, haute couture clean. The sillage was moderate, but then I took a hot shower, remembering I had an appointment where fragrances would not be suitable, and after showering, I could still smell this scent quite well. That is when my DH said "Hey I like that a lot!" (He has volunteered compliments on my fragrances only 3 times because he considers fragrances wearing to be a serious psychological disorder...but we know better here!). This was a winner. I believe this is totally unisex and appropriate from ages 20-90 yrs. Anyway, Keiko's musc starts out very suede like in the warm Summer sun on my skin. I catch the cooling effect of iris, a brisk and prim note here and as it warms up the Amber provides a beautiful elegant seductive base mingled with a touch of Sandalwood in the dry down. My overall impression, at this time, is that it is freaking gorgeous and I am going to start wearing it regularly. It is never going to have that crazy mixture of aldehydes-laundry- cardamom-sperm-rose-ambergris-lily of the Valley and vetiver that drives me insane about Le Labo's psychotically priced Musc 25, but Keiko's Musc is definitely a fine signature musk in that slick black opaque glass faceted bottle that will "own" your nightstand/dresser. It also wears very well in Spring, Summer and Fall. It's an office appropriate and into evening scent that really purrs with the skin as it opens up. A word of caution, wearing Keiko Mecheri Musc may cause you to slip into the fifth dimension- update your wardrobe, crave Versace sunglasses, book tickets to fashion week in Paris and crave stylish Jimmy Choo shoes...
"There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area we call the Twilight Zone."- Rod Serling
