Stuffy Musty Iris
First off...I Love Irises. True beauties of my garden they pop, on their own schedule and delight me with their robust color in the fullness of late Spring. They are tall slender and truly gorgeously indigo...I would love to be reincarnated, at least once, as an iris-divine! Additionally, they impart such a fantastic array of clean, powdery and earthy-carrot-like notes to many of my favorite fragrances. But...Alas, this was definitely not my HG Iris. It was very stifled dusty and rigid and immediately images of 'Downton Abbey' started to pop into my head. This is a very stately and complete composition, don't get me wrong. However...it was so constricting, formal and unimaginative, I felt very saddened upon smelling it. I just want it to go back into the crypt from which it came and disappear like the old "Anne of green Gables ", "Upstairs, Down Stairs" or "Brides' Head Revisited" Sagas on BBC. I guess, from my various Television references you get the picture of the mood this portrays. I felt as if this fragrance had been stored in someone's Grandmother's belongs chest and sunk on the titanic and some how kept dry very dry, in fact and then just opened and exposed to fresh air seconds before I sniffed it. There was nothing innovative, sexy, kinetic or even remotely artistically inspiring about this fragrance...which is so unfortunate, because I believe iris is one of the most beautiful flowers, as well as, fragrance notes; however, its light has not been ignited in this composition. Blah!
