A bottle of Eau de Kuschel please....
We're all very familiar with that: You go out and buy something nice for at home, for slipping in or out and that is the absolute hit. That can be a sweater, a pair of trousers or maybe even a nice blanket and this part is so incredibly comfortable, fluffy, cuddly and so wonderful that you never want to take it off again.
Clothes, in which one can live, I always use to say.

But it can also go well with a fragrance. So I recently got a taste of Eau des Baux (thanks my dear Schoork für´s Fixing, that was a direct hit).
I already knew the brand L´Occitane en Provence, but never bought any products. And that one also produces scents there, I knew only by the way.
But then I read some comments here, which are more than benevolent, and in addition I heard that Karstadt reduced the scents of L´Occitane by 30%. That was a hint with the fence post. Nothing like a bottle and I could still get hold of it on the offer table.
I haven't tested before. There was no tester, but I knew I'd like the scent. And that was completely confirmed. What a pleasant, cosy, cozy scent you just want to sink into, loll, purr and enjoy There is such a wonderful not too strong basic sweetness by tonka bean and vanilla, which are noticeable already very early. That radiates such a nice warmth. There is a spicy spiciness, a beautiful combination of cardamom and pepper, but not pungent but discreet. Frankincense brings a refined slightly smoky touch and does not let the scent become too sweet. The course does not undergo too great a change, it becomes somewhat spicier in the course of time.
The whole thing looks so round and pleasant that I have to sniff myself again and again.

I'm lying on my couch on an uncomfortable rainy autumn day in November (it will soon be back again), in my farthest and most comfortable clothes, XXXXXXL pullover, ultra-wide pants, thick socks, a giant pot of cocoa is on the table, lightly seasoned with cinnamon, cardamom, carnation, nutmeg and other autumn-winter ingredients, a large piece of juicy honey cake, candlelight, beautiful music and I am happy not to have anything to do and enjoy life. Unfortunately I don't have a fireplace, but it would fit well to the mood.
And then this wonderfully cuddly Eau des Baux... And I don't like getting off the couch anymore. But who will bring me another piece of pie??

The whole pleasant pleasure lasts about 6 hours, then the scent gently and quietly disappears like the candle flame, which will slowly go out. On the clothes it lasts even longer.
Should someone be there to snuggle up, Eau des Baux would also be well noticed, but it is by no means obtrusive. On the contrary, the pleasant scent would transfer its cuddly atmosphere to the cuddly partner. You just feel good all around.

The bottle is so simple that one could not even guess that it contains such a great fragrance. He could be from the pharmacy. But it depends on the content. And in my eyes or my nose everything is right.

I will spend today's Sunday, which looks quite grey, with some small household duties and later I will feel like a giant pot of cocoa and cake. And maybe even to cuddle....

Cosiness in bottles
Sometimes I'm creative when I write comments, but this scent just lets me rest in myself.

If there is a scent that radiates cosiness, then probably this one. When I first tested it on paper, I thought of sun milk, but I had to revise it, because it works differently on the skin
I felt reminded quite easily of the smell of warm rice pudding, which is probably the vanilla guilt I assume, along with the incense. I only like cold rice pudding, but I like the smell when it's warm.
But the whole fragrance is so homey, cuddly, soft and pleasant to wear.
A warm fragrance that is never too intrusive Cardamom at the beginning I notice, the pepper so completely easily, then it goes over relatively fast to the incense, paired with tonka bean and vanilla.

I think he even helps against stress, because he just has such a calm and warm aura, that fascinated me honestly.

On the paper reminiscent of sun milk, I still thought it could be worn in summer, but only up to 15-18 degrees. In principle I would also revise that.

I think on a rainy autumn day it's an ideal scent, maybe even in winter by the fireplace.
The shelf life is okay with just 5-6h.

The bottle reminds me of medicine, but I think it's quite ok.

If you're looking for perfumes for every occasion, you can hook up here when it comes to cuddling.

I'll definitely get it when summer's over!

Real Quality...
I am so pleasantly surprised by this one. Eau des Baux strikes me as a fragrance which is worth a lot more than it's price tag. Extremely well made, to a level beyond what is expected from a house such as L'Occitane. It is a sweet, herbal woody scent which is reminiscent of other woody orientals (notably Tobacco Vanille). There is little not to like here, as it is warm, soft and never too loud. I find it strikes just the right balance of each note and works beautifully throughout the day.

I get the cypress, a wonderfully green and also dry herbal note, mixed with tonka bean and incense. The dryness comes from the woods, incense and cypress, with a hint of herbal background, and the sweetness, which is almost honey-like, comes from the vanilla and tonka bean.

I really think that, as a masculine fragrance, you cannot go wrong. It could even work on a daring lady. Eau des Baux really is phenomenal when you consider the price it costs. I think that people who like the honey, tobacco like fragrances, or woody orientals in general, will like this. Otherwise I would recommend trying this first. Another aspect which I like about L'Occitance is that they offer matching products to this, and I tried out the shower gel before trying this, which in itself has a fantastic aroma and feel. Overall, I cannot recommend this highly enough, for lovers of dry, herbal, woody orientals etc. Really nice. Lovely!

Amazing, mysterious, first class
A scent, as it stands in (nature) beech. The mixture of cypress and frankincense in the main theme gives an astonishing aroma of itself that I have not yet smelled SO.
The small "introduction" with cardamom and pepper gives only a vague idea of what a first-class "lecture" a "professor of fragrances" follows.
Gently lulling with warm voice and smoky undertone. Green in the theme but also to one of the foremothers / fathers of the fragrance art, the incense leaned against and very mysterious, almost mystical, radiating.
Eau Des Baux" is not bound to any gender. (I generally don't assign fragrances to a "sex", but distinguish between e.g. "sweet, flowery" and "rough, woody". Or "light, aquatic" and "dark, smoky")
"Eau des Baux" has something slightly dark and smoky, but is also woody-vanilla with a hint of "healthy spice", which gives the fragrance something "noble" and a large portion of timelessness.
My nose, which knows many, many fragrances, can still be inspired and almost captured when the "fragrance theme",

Great value fragrance
Please see my video review for one of my favourite vanilla, incense based fragrances. I cannot think of another fragrance in my collection where you get the same quality, dollar per millilitre.

Incognito - Autumn Song

A beautiful and inexpensive offering from L'Occitane. Gorgeous mix of cypress, incense, tobacco, sweet tonka and vanilla. This vanilla is one of the best I have ever tried. It really reminds me of old book smell in the library. Not similar to Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille, but share the similar vibe. It has some ancient, natural smell. Perfect for autumn chilling with your favorite book.
One can say it's niche. Great fragrance for a great price. A true gem.

My soul perfume
This is the perfume of my soul. Natural and spiritual fragrance, i feel the not too sweet vanilla and frankincense dancing together... when i was a kid my cousin from France offered me a wood box full of new pencils and rubbers. This perfume reminds me the experience of open that box and smell those woods mixed with the natural vanilla. This perfume can be used by man and women.
I went to a book store and the girl behind the balcony make me a nice compliment "I wish that this bookstore always smell so good".
Similar to Tom Ford? No, not to my nose. TF TV is too much sweeter, this one is better. This is a niche fragrance for a fair price.

A smoky chapel on a sunny day
Contrary to what I expected after my first experience, this has really grown on me. I never was a big fan of vanilla, but this is a very nice take on that theme.

The opening is very 'in your face', especially when sprayed on the neck or somewhere close to the nose. But it soon turns into a warm and smooth scent. The cypress becomes very apparent and the incense gives it a full bodied smokiness without becoming too overpowering. Most incense perfumes give me the image of a dark and smoky church, but this one makes me feel as if I'm in a small chapel somewhere in the Provence, where the hot sun warms the stone of the church and the wind blows in the air over the cypresstrees. Very beautiful! And to think I wasn't sure about this one at first.

It also layers well with Encre Noire, creates an interesting scent. Especially when it's fully dried down, you get a very warm and almost creamy like vanilla, very full bodied. But I prefer Eau des Baux without the dark and dirty vetiver of Encre Noire.

#1 compliment getter for me in cold weather
In the opening it's the cardamom that is most apparent to me. There's no vanilla at all yet.

After several minutes I start smelling incense with still a hint of the cardamom. On top of that, the vanilla starts to slowly show itself, until it dominates.

All in all, I find it a very lovely, warm scent. Ideal for the colder months. To me it also seems a bit ... creamy. Because of that, I had my doubts whether or not it was manly enough (because I don't wanna smell like a dessert). But it's just too delicious to resist :) Besides, after having tried it more often, I find it to smell a lot more manly now!!

Because of the vanilla and incense notes, it's comparable (at least for me) to Boss Orange for Men by Hugo Boss. But Boss Orange is more fresh and fruity, while Eau des Baux is warmer and also more spicy. On top of that, the vanilla is more apparent in Eau des Baux.

It's also a beast in terms of longevity and sillage, but I find that's the case with most warm scents.

Cloves And Tobacco
I got this cologne as a New Year's present from my children and so I have very good feelings about it without even smelling it. The impression I get is of cloves and tobacco even though these are not listed notes. The combination of spices, with the cypress and sweeter notes make me think of the sweetened tobacco accord in Bogart pour Homme. Eau Des Baux is a lot smoother than the Bogart . Overall it is classy number with reasonable longevity and is very natural smelling. My wife has complimented me a number of times on how good it smells.

Glorified Febreeze
Number One: This stuff is not for men only, I will snatch it away and use it liberally.

Number Two: This reminds me of a room spray, like Febreeze.

There is something chalky next to very fresh notes which remind me of a white linen shirt, freshly ironed. Soft powdery notes continue to a "dry" dry down.

A harmless scent, a go-to scent, better than Febreeze, but not worth rushing out to buy the bottle.

What Happens When You Mix Coniferous Cypress With Deep Incense?...
Eau des Baux goes on with a spicy pink pepper and cardamom tandem before slowly transitioning to its early heart. After the spicy open the spice recedes but remains now in support, ceding ground to a somewhat woody coniferous cypress with hints of smooth incense peeping through. As the fragrance progresses in the heart the incense deepens and intensifies to take the fore, moderately sweetened by tonka bean from the base which gives the overall accord a relatively sweet pipe tobacco like vibe with the cypress and cardamom dirtying the overall accord somewhat. During the late dry-down the initial spice all but completely dissipates, leaving the tonka bean, incense and remaining supporting cypress to give a relatively sweet sendoff. Projection is good to very good and longevity is average at about 8 hours on skin.

Eau des Baux was quite a surprise when I finally got around to trying it. Tobacco is not listed in the notes and indeed it most likely contains none but it does have a very deep pipe tobacco vibe that permeates the heart of the fragrance and it smells incredible. The cypress utilized throughout the composition is key to making everything work, as it adds a woody slightly coniferous underlying facet that counters the sweetness of the tonka bean laden incense to balance the composition. Eau des Baux is frequently compared to Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford and I can definitely see why folks may make the comparison, but Eau des Baux is the more complete and interesting composition of the two that sells for a heck of a lot less money at its $52 a 100 ml bottle price tag. The bottom line is after sampling this one at my local mall, I left L'Occitane, got to my car and then turned around and bought a bottle as it completely impressed me (relatively low cost aside). Values like this 4 star out of 5 "excellent" rated fragrance are relatively scarce, so I recommend seeking Eau des Baux out for trial and possible purchase.

Wonderful scent
Wonderful smell.

Opens with a nice cypress note and then joins tonka and vanilla with some incense. That's a linear scent mostly, but in a very good way.

Sweet but not overpowering, very distinct and innovative.

Actually that's one of the best releases in past few years. Smells like Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille, but not so sweet and honeyed. Also, it's 1/4 of TF's price. Absolutely worth it.

Sillage, lasting power and projection are average - its more a skin scent.

Not Just For Men
Eau des Baux--what a glorious and natural creation. It's woody, smoky vanilla incense with a bit of citrus to keep it fresh. The incense is exotic, not austere. If this were created by any other house, you would be paying through your nose for a scent of this quality and complexity. I think this is the finest offering from L'Occitane at the present time and probably one of its Top 5 of all-time.

When I wear it, I smell it on my skin constantly, so I must surmise that sillage is excellent. It seems to me that this is too rich of a fragrance to use daily (if such things matter to you. They don't to me). Seems more like something suitable for going out the evening.

Superb blending of Incense, Cypress, Tonka & Vanilla. It's not listed but I also get Cinnamon. It's quite similar to T.F. Tobacco Vanille.
