Fresh rose fragrance
French niche fragrance brand L'Artisan Parfumeur was founded in Paris in 1976 and is now one of the most popular French houses in the niche sector.
Long before the niche boom 20 years ago, the brand recognized the importance of craftsmanship. The brand is known for soliflors.
An initially fresh and later powdery rose-patchouli combination. It is a LE from 2015 - private rose, with the fragrance celebrating the May rose (not a peony). The noses behind it are none other than Bertrand Duchaufour and Stéphanie Bakouche. The packaging has a high-quality look with a little door that can be opened at the side.
Rose Privée is a tribute to the rare and iconic May rose (Rose de Mai). Known as the queen of flowers, the May rose is only picked by hand in Grasse during this month. Around 4 to 5 tons of its flowers are needed to produce 1 kg of essence.
Rose Privée has a fresh, light citrus opening with a hint of basil and a light herbal note. Dewy and with a hint of fruit that smells like I'm walking through a grove of beautiful roses in summer with citrus here and there.
Magnolia lends a light creaminess, while lilac is simply there. Patchouli adds some weight to the perfume, although it's not the dense, thick patchouli. There is also hay, which retains a dry green to the end. The base note balances out the subtle sweetness of the rose in the top note well.
Opening: Modern. Lush rose gardens in the south of France. Fresh + green. Natural. Also something peppery, although not present in the notes. Elegant, but not Delina loud.
Drydown: from fresh notes in the opening: basil, a little lilac to a touch of powderiness: magnolia and violet leaf and cool earthy patchouli.
Initially fresh and later warm and creamy,
A fragrance for fall or spring, it doesn't work for me above 30 degrees - the scents change depending on the temperature and humidity and the May rose also smells best here in May. The longevity is unfortunately mediocre, 3-4 hours, a no go for an eau de parfum.
Another great fragrance from the brand is Voleur de Roses - a dark red, almost black thorny rose. Dark and powerful. Femme Fatale in a deep dark velvet robe with plump petals. Definitely an autumn fragrance. Or Rose de Mai by Jean-Claude Ellena (so it must be good!) for Perris Monte Carlo.
I'm new to the rose game, for a long time I thought rose fragrances were old-fashioned, which is still faster than you think.
The founder left the brand to become
Maître Parfumeur et Gantier and to develop even more decadent creations.
