Her name was Ordel.....
Ordel was an elf. She was tragically born without wings and lived in a soap bubble since her birth, which floated through a wonderful magic garden. So at least she had the feeling she could fly. The wall of the bubble was so thick that the scents of the garden did not reach her. How she would have liked to smell it once. Nothing came in or out except the light of the sun and moon and the twinkling of the stars in the night. She did not know how long she had been in the bubble. But it must have always been like this!
Ordel had with her in the floating bubble a small house and a small farm with caterpillars that always stayed small and never grew. Why ever? Every night she took a different caterpillar before going to bed and put it on her lap and stroked it while she sat in the rocking chair dreaming of the scents of the garden she would never smell. As she did on that starry, late evening. And while Ordel was still stroking the little caterpillar and dreaming of the magic garden outside her bubble...she passed away. Silently,quietly,suddenly,unexpectedly and just like that!
The moment Ordel's little body stopped breathing and her lifeless hand fell to the ground something magical happened. The little caterpillar on her lap began to pupate in no time and so did all the other caterpillars in the little creel. They grew bigger and bigger and all together became magnificent butterflies. The largest and most magnificent butterfly was the one she had in her lap. It took Ordel's small, lifeless body in its strong arms and flew with her to the ceiling of the soap bubble and pierced it with a single flap of its wings and the bubble burst. And all the butterflies followed him into the still cool,early and foggy morning to lay Ordel to rest.
They found a beautiful place in the magic garden. Quiet,hidden,humble and lonely. Just as Ordel herself once was! They laid her on a bed of earthy moss covered with dew in which she slowly began to sink. The misty, misty-damp morning air smelled woody-clear of patchouli. In an instant, delicate green veins grew on the moss bed and grew into lush green leaves and shoots. Small rosebuds formed and the air smelled of soft-fruited and watery raspberries and damp,fresh and minty earth. Gradually, the rose buds slowly opened and all the rose petals looked like delicate,transparent and fragile wings. They were the wings Ordel never had and possessed in her lifetime!
A soft whispering and whispering pervaded the silence and devotion of the magic garden and each of the butterflies knew that this was Ordel. Her small, fragile soul was now where she had always wanted to be. In every leaf,in every flower and bud,in the moss and in the spicy,moist,fresh earth.
She was fine where she was now. She was happy. Each of the butterflies could feel it,see it,and most of all...... smell it!
It smelled misty soft,elfin and peaceful...!
