Interesting Facts

The fashion label "Lacoste" is, without a doubt, one of the world's most famous brands featuring wearable and affordable fashion. Everybody is familiar with the sewn-on crocodile that serves as the brand logo. However, "Lacoste" is "Lacoste S. A.", which represents an entire company network.

The label was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by the professional tennis player René Lacoste who was looking for practical tennis clothing. Therefore in 1923, the tennis player founded his own clothing company and (due to a lost bet) chose the crocodile as the company logo. And since Lacoste had specific ideas, the first white polo shirts came on the market relatively quickly. It took Lacoste almost 30 years to shift from white to colors in its collections.

Lacoste repeatedly partnered with other clothing manufacturers in the following years. The affordable quality, well-thought-out functions, new materials, and prominent wearers like John F. Kennedy made the brand known worldwide. Lacoste also gained further fame through the expansion of its portfolio (towels, sunglasses, etc.) and the first stores in Paris (1981), New York, Palm Beach, and Pearl Harbour (all in 1995).

The "Lacoste" range is categorized into four lines. "Lacoste" includes the main products (clothing, shoes, jewelry, watches for men, women, and children). "Lacoste L!VE" features men's and women's fashion for the younger target group. "Lacoste Sport" is the line for sports, leisure, and outdoor, while "Lacoste Home" exclusively includes home textiles (bed linen, bath towels, etc.).
