The Oriental for everyday life
A few days ago, I had the opportunity to purchase a bottle of Oriental Zinc at a very reasonable price. The fragrance pyramid read very promisingly. Just the way I usually like it.
However, some rather negative reviews here initially made me a little hesitant to make a blind purchase of this fragrance. Even though it actually fits exactly into my style...
In the end, I managed to persuade myself to buy Oriental Zinc on the off chance and was very curious to see how I would like it.
After extensive testing, spraying and sniffing, I have to say: I can absolutely NOT understand the negative reviews!
As soon as I spray it on, I notice a very cool, almost metallic freshness, from which I can clearly smell lavender. The other fragrance notes are rather unidentifiable for me. I have to admit, if the fragrance stayed like this, it wouldn't be my cup of tea, as I'm not really into fresh, cool perfumes, but rather sweet, warm gourmands.
But it only lasts a few minutes and then the freshness begins to turn spicy, cardamom and cinnamon start to give the oriental zinc significantly more warmth and depth and that's when it gets really interesting for me!
I didn't really know what to make of the "Zinc" in the name beforehand, but with "Oriental" I usually expect a spicy, sweet and often heavy fragrance. I can't understand why these aspects in particular seem to give rise to criticism of this perfume, as after a while the fragrance develops in exactly the direction you would expect from an oriental scent.
After half an hour at the latest, tonka, patchouli and incense become more and more prominent and give the fragrance a wonderfully sweet, almost gourmand and still very spicy note. Yes, definitely oriental, but admittedly in a rather subtle version. Anyone who knows real oriental perfumes knows that this is more "oriental for western noses".
Over time, the tonal note manifests itself more and more and so I smell a very beautifully soft, warm, sweet-spicy fragrance for hours, which is nevertheless suitable for everyday use and not too intrusive, but still lasts quite a long time.
For me, this is definitely a great perfume for the cooler and colder months, which I can imagine wearing on both men and women!
I should also mention the beautifully designed and heavy bottle, which comes in a very decorative and elegant box. As usual with Lalique, the bottle is an absolute eye-catcher. That alone would have made my blind purchase worthwhile. Fortunately, I also really like the contents!
