Now you Smell it, Now you Don't
An 'Eau Fraîche' was the old time version of those aerosols that are full of mineral water, meant to cool you down in the heat.
It was the little sister of the Eau de Cologne, mainly citrus and flowers, and maybe a shading of woods and patchouli.
Being around 2% concentration, the Eau Fraîche was weak and phemeral, just enough to freshen you up.
I put some on at 9 today, and by 11.30 it had gone.
I’ve tried several vintage samples and one is different, it hasn’t gone off or lost too much of the head notes; its a fresh, citrussy Eau de Cologne type thing, weak but nice while it lasts.
During the noughties and into the teenies, the Eau Fraîche spread out to include just about anything, Spicebomb Eau Fraîche and Miss Dior Eau Fraîche being the most inconguous.
By that time it was no longer a watery Eau de Cologne, just a watered-down whatever.
