The Magic Of The Damp, Dirty, And Mushroomy Beauty
If you are a white musk lover, that fresh and clean feeling, that smell similar to forest blackberries, freshly washed and dried linen, then this perfume is not for you. Musk Pur is a blend of wild animal musk and dirty, old-fashioned, unconventional patchouli that I would call Muschouli! I confess that Les Perles d'Orient was utterly unknown to me until a notice appeared on Facebook with a link to the site. I read a little about this brand's history, the origin of raw materials from Grasse, aluminium bottles to protect and mature the perfume better and last, but not least, the low price. Italy is the country where perfumes come to life, shamelessly inspired by not too well-known design or niche brands. Suddenly, the other evening I was visiting a perfumery that had exhibited many of these specimens, but not all of those available on the site. I skipped the ones that I think should remember the usually more inflated ones, and I focused on the Musk Pur. The surprise was around the corner, and the first splash was fatal.

First of all, not having found the official olfactory pyramid anywhere at the time of writing this review, apart from the one belonging to the family of woody animals, I went through the ingredients and tried to match them as much as possible with what I smell. I can't get the order right; however, this is what I think there is: moss - no doubts! - floral stuff like rose and jasmine, spice, violet leaves (alpha-iso methyl ionone), vanilla (coumarin), lavender (linalool), patchouli - it's a signature! - and maybe creamy sandalwood. Just a spray and immediately releases a scent almost of porcini mushrooms in a humid and warm wood. This perfume is sumptuous, decadent, between rotten woods and softballs of oakmoss. When I first spray it to my skin, I am showered with this kind of almost moist mushroom earthiness. It's not quite the smell of the mushroom, but something more like the root of the freshly picked mushroom, which evokes a land rich and full of rotting humus. This is a rarely used style of moss. How can a perfume be so sexy with these slightly earthy and slightly woody accords? The dirty moss opening is the part that most people don't like, but this is my favourite part. It is a speck of naturally sweet dirt with beautiful dark mosses, not squeaky as I can find many clean mosses. For me, the violet comes out along with the soil and mushrooms' atmosphere, taking a front seat after a while. It's all musky, flowery, earthy, yes, mushrooms on a forest floor.

You have to be patient and wait for the mushroom smell to turn into a beautiful, but soft, animal blend. After a quarter of an hour, dawn slowly arrives, and the light begins to filter through the branches of the trees, illuminating this undergrowth that slowly awakens. At the same time, a slightly aromatic dew dries on the leaves of the trees. It's quietly floral, you don't even notice it, it's really well blended, with a spicy note that smells like cloves. This part interests me the most as it reminds me of a kind of intimate part of the body, clean, washed, warm, with its natural musk aroma. On my skin, the floral notes remain very soft, revealing no sweetness.

Then it transforms into an intriguing, robust and long-lasting, yet soft musk with earthy undertones. I no longer find myself in the depths of the wooded forest, but emerge in a clearing: radiant splendour, the scent of a musky herbal soap. A truly loved trip, but seductive and fragrant. I like patchouli more and more, and sometimes it's real enjoyment in small doses. But this one, however, does not contain a small dose of patchouli. This is a crazy, mouldy, patchouli-rich powerhouse. The musk is there, but only to make the patchouli rise and last longer. After about a few hours, I get a beautiful mix of sandalwood and vanilla combined with musk. At this point, it is very much a leather scent, and you have to bend down to get a good smell.

While remaining very attached to the skin, this perfume creates around the wearer like a very recognizable aromatic cloud: carnal, earthly, erotic. Original and unmistakable, it is the mossiest moss there is, the best I have found so far. I can no longer do without it. Simply put, this is a playful and meaty combination of musk and patchouli, when I smell it I think of a worker at the end of the service, a bricklayer or a mechanic, if he showered and shaved, it would be quite attractive. I like it a lot—the scent of when you make love to your partner to bask in the glow. Believe me, this thing becomes the smell of sex between the sheets lost over the weekend by rubbing into the arms of a loved one, and it's all built around a very abstract combination of spicy rose, a little bit of clove, purple and musk. , and again and again. Moss is a stunner that melts and becomes part of you. It is very unique and very musky. So if you like unique olfactory experiences and musks, this is a must. We are here in front of a fine example of Italian artisan perfumery. It is a truly unisex, genuinely neutral perfume. A few hours after application, I find it wonderfully subtle, a muted and more amber version of its initial self. I would say a perfume suitable for the cold seasons, autumn and winter, for the day but especially for the evening and hot nights.

This review bases upon a 150ml bottle I own since February 2021.
