Like all other LIDL fragrances, Deep is also inspired by a trendy fragrance, this time the most controversial fragrance released in the last decade:
Bleu de Chanel Eau de Toilette. It comes in that deep blue square glass bowl that looks great when viewed through a ray of light and has a charming minimalist design. It deserves a try for just under 5 euros; the quality is excellent; the ingredients are controlled and vegan tested. So if you've always wondered what Blue de Chanel OG could smell like but never dared to spend a lot of money, this is your chance to take a spin before investing in the more expensive original design perfume. As for the scent itself, it's a subtle gentlemanly type of scent. Slightly woody, it has more of a sharp and fresh spicy flavor to it.
Allegedly released in March 2021, Deep opens with an explosion of citrus, pungent, hot spicy, bitter and aromatic subtleties, with clean soapy undertones. The spiciness of the citrus twist is dominant, with a spicy touch of pepper and mint. Hence, a spicy, aromatic, and citrusy opening. Ginger and citrus fruits dance to the notes of incense. A pleasantly pungent smell of freshly washed laundry hits immediately after spraying and dominates the first few minutes. The shimmer of the citrus peel of fresh fruit is always slightly bitter, which pairs beautifully with the scent without being overbearing.
Meanwhile, floral additions and heady dirty undertones lend an earthy quality to the mix. The magic happens after about an hour when it stabilizes and the citrus fruits subside. The spicy aspect continues with a sumptuous hint of freshly cut ginger and tons of Iso E Super molecule. I get a floral touch, presumably from hedione with jasmine and magnolia nuance. The heart is just too flowery, spicy, and dry.
The base becomes resinous, dry, woody, musky, earthy. I recognize the salty and sweet ambroxan, a bit like the one that stands out in
Sauvage Eau de Toilette, and it has a musky backbone that elevates all the other notes. There is a smoky chord that combines with creamy blonde wood and dry wood chips. My nose perceives it as extremely vigorous, probably because in its base it has a woody, dirty, and earthy accord.
To me, this is what a "blue" shard should be. In my opinion, this is not so much an aquatic perfume as it is a much deeper and darker blue perfume that can be worn on almost any occasion. Deep is the perfectly pure, unobtrusive, and crowd-pleaser type of cologne. It's vigorous but not over-powering and will make a statement. Although the sillage and projection are moderate, the longevity is above average. I sprayed a couple of spritzes on my backhand before going to bed, and it was still there when I woke up this morning. It seems to have remarkable staying power. Deep is a delicious scent. It is from start to finish; it is intoxicating with its spicy and fresh opening, regenerating; and is reflective in its development. It is very versatile, elegant, and informal, and you can wear it from early morning until late at night. In all seasons, although spring and autumn are my favorites for the day and summer for the evening, it suits both leisure and work and even on lazy weekend days.
I based the review on a 75ml bottle I have owned since July 2021.
