Succulent Fruity Floral--Not a Chemical Soup
Once again Margot Elena has defied my expectations, this time with Love & Toast SUGAR GRAPEFRUIT. The very name doesn't sound all that appealing to me, as I eat grapefruit sans sucre, but this perfumer basically never names her creations literally, so for all I knew this was going to smell like cucumber and basil. In fact, it does not. Instead, although it opens with a bright grapefruit citrus, it quickly transforms into an incredibly succulent fruity-floral fragrance which does not smell much like grapefruit at all. Does it smell like yuzu, perhaps? The lily is not at all dirty, and I thought that I detected jasmine, but what matters, in the end, is that the ensemble of notes here smells very nice.
As someone who generally finds mainstream fruity-floral frags pretty boring and unappealing, if not downright sickening (often because they are so very artificial and chemically), I am delighted by this totally natural-smelling composition, which is incredibly fresh and juicy and sweet without being too sugary. The last fruity floral I sniffed which was this good was Krigler SPARKLING DIAMOND, which costs several times more than anything in this line.
SUGAR GRAPEFRUIT is simply scrumptious. Yes, it is simple, but it is also a genuine pleasure to wear. Is it haute parfumerie? No, of course not. Nonetheless, I recommend this creation heartily to anyone who likes fruity-floral fragrances. Why wear one of the massively marketed chemical soups, when you could wear this?
