Noble Beauty
Color me spellbound: this is, for me, special reserve, special occasion material. With as many facets as a radiant cut diamond, Rouge de Lubin delivers a feast for the nose, It opens with a salmagundi of green, aromatic herbs—basil, rosemary, oregano—it also has a pinch of aniseed that punctuates the aromatics with a twinkle.

The green herbaceousness merges with a dry clove, cinnamic undertones, smoky cedar and coniferous splendor. My nose feels a granular texture; warm ripples, a sensuous potency, an accelerated heartbeat. Growing, tenting, it seems to inhabit a now mythic world in a present that seems riddled with impotent ennui and smartphone hypnosis. It's catnip for a sorry sod like me who loses himself in nostalgia—but I digress!

The base feels like castoreum-tinged leather imbued with frankincense, shaded with a loamy patchouli, and a broad brush stroke of forest flourish. My mind doesn't turn to tycoons, nor mobsters, nor mafioso when imagining the persona of Rouge. I think of one who is far more noble, statesman-like, and perhaps philanthropic. Good guys can be sexy, too...

We could reduce Rouge to a luxury fragrance marketed to men, embodying trope in fashion during the release; we could compare it to other fragrances, Derby, Le Troisieme Homme, and drain all the mystique out of it. Just like its delightfully peculiar translucent red enclosure, Rouge is an anomaly, a legend, and I only want to be in rapturous wonder while wearing it and musing about it, relishing each moment of its ephemera.

The red tycoon
That no one has reported about Rouge here yet, I'm very surprised, where he is that what some men here may have always been looking for. A completely overlooked jewel. A perfume what bristles with testosterone only so. Unfiltered masculine, self-confident, mature, confident and decadently self-assured. in 1981, the house created Lubin Rouge. A perfume which is difficult to classify. Rouge could be a spicy men's chypre, a fresh-harsh fougére or a smoky-woody leather scent. Rouge has so many masculine facets to offer. Which fragrance does Rouge remind me of? Let's put it this way...of Derby by Guerlain! But actually, it's the other way around. Derby smells like Rouge. Guerlain had probably copied a lot from Rouge when Derby appeared in 1985. Only some significant notes have been exchanged and replaced. And it was somewhat "downplayed"! Otherwise, both perfumes smell almost identical. That is to say, not quite! If the two perfumes were portrayed as people,Derby would be the always serious, loyal and correct businessman. Whereas Rouge is also a businessman. But a completely different model of businessman. Rouge is a gangster, a mobster and a tycoon of the old school. Which does not mean that he does not have good manners. He certainly does. He's just more territorial and criminal and doesn't share his kingdom and property with anyone. He is simply more unadorned and to be enjoyed with a certain caution!

Rouge
Rouge starts with some green-herbaceous notes. Bright airy tones of ethereal anise are accompanied by fresh oregano and flanked by soapy bitter basil and bergamot. After quite some time, Rouge begins to darken. Woody and spicy notes break through from dry-warm cinnamon and dusty cloves. Accompanied by freshly hit cedar and tangy-smoky vetiver and dark,brown-green mosses. Accords of earthy dry patchouli further emphasize this. In the final phase, Rouge becomes increasingly smoky and leathery. Gentle nuances of dry incense and unsweet amber pervade the perfume and an almost antique-looking leather note opens up. This is in turn still additionally supported by a not insignificant and territorial dose ledrig, torfigen Castoreum.

Conclusion
So or so it could have smelled in the manor room, office or salon of Al Capone, Lucky Luciano or Don Vito Corleone. The perfume is made for a gangster in his prime. Rouge is not necessarily a fragrance for very young men. To wear this fragrance, in my opinion, you need a more mature age and, above all, a very serene self-confidence and ego. Rouge exudes a lot of maturity, sovereignty and grandeur. But he also has a dark side due to the castoreum, which gives Rouge an immense territorial aura, authority, dominance and profundity. It is by no means harmless! Rouge is not a perfume that you just sniff away. Rouge is enjoyed like an old, heavier and more precious cognac or whiskey. Partly he even takes such features. It is a perfume for those profound moments as a man or when you want to smell unmistakably like that and are very aware of your own personality and gender. A perfume which seems to float unshakably above things. Male self-confidence and charisma in perfection!
