A Soupçon of Rose, followed by Dried Grass
After a brief burst of rose in the opening of MCMC MAINE, dried grass takes over the perfume. It smells nice and natural, but more like a fine cologne than a composed perfume, it seems to me.
I was trying to guess the notes and all that I could really discern was the initial, ephemeral rose, followed by a citrus-tinged dried grass. According to the hierarchy, the dried grass is actually hay, but this does not smell to me at all like the hay of Jean Patou 1000. It lacks that dampness and slight bitterness which I've come to recognize as tell-tale signs of the scent of hay.
To my nose, this smells like citrus and dried grass, not hay. But hey, that's a nice scent, too! This composition reminds me a bit of my vague memory of d'Orsay ETIQUETTE BLEUE (of which I also had a skimpy sample...). Unfortunately, my small sample of MAINE is now exhausted, so that's about all I can say.
I probably will not be pursuing this fragrance further, although there's certainly nothing wrong with it. It's just that I do not find it especially compelling or original. Completely unisex, MAINE could be worn by just about anyone just about anywhere at any time.
