Papyrus Moleculaire
Beautiful, minimal, sober—Papyrus Moleculaire seems like a slept-on scent from the Maison Crivelli family. Everyone seems to tout Patchouli Magnetik and Iris Malikhan, but this one deserves some love too.

If you're keen on papyrus and soft, woody scents, it smells like: A) quickly flipping an old paperback book through your fingers and seeing the ensuing dust float through air, lit up by the late afternoon sunlight filtering through a linen curtain.

If you don't like it, it's probably because it smells like: B) any and every boutique hotel lobby in LA or C) the kind of shop that displays stacks of photography books on 80s post-modern, tessellated coffee tables and charges $340 for an artisanal, ceramic bowl.

Ethereal echo. Papyrus under spicy coriander!
After testing the extraits from Crivelli a while ago, the Papyrus Moléculaire awaited me and there is a lot to say about it.

Refreshing, Mediterranean, herbal and spicy are some of the words that come to mind when I spray it on.

The top note opens with a fresh spiciness that is initially led by papyrus, but also by intense coriander. It is pure nature! The intense green and slightly balsamic accords are certainly not everyone's cup of tea, and after a while they also clash with me. Above all, a strongly spicy pepper overpowers the harmony and overshadows the fresh notes after a while.

After a few hours, the fragrance develops in a resinous and woody direction, which in my opinion creates a brilliant drydown. It becomes less fresh and green, but more woody and spicy.

The tobacco & tonka are rather subdued and can only be smelled to a small extent.

H/S top! After 6-8 hours still on the skin and up to 24 hours in the clothes. A strong plus point!

I would say that Papyrus Moleculaire is similar to fragrances such as Derby or Ambre Chromatique.

Generally speaking, it is an average spring and summer fragrance for men and women. The combination of freshness and wood is really good, but the intense spiciness bothers me a little.
But it is definitely suitable as a sample.

In the Egyptian burial chamber
Papyrus is to be understood literally here, with all associations to Egyptian paper production, hieroglyphics, desert sand and mysterious burial chamber. PM opens slightly musty, moist and with unmistakable papyrus note. Lightly spiced by pepper and coriander, the scent settles almost oily on the skin and stays right there: skin deep. Sillage is hardly present, but that actually does not bother, because who likes to have this smell on him, will be perfectly happy to have it for himself.
I perceive it as damp, slightly musty papyrus, earthy and yet still with powdery, dusty undertones somewhere. We are not in a light, bright library here, even smelling of musk and print blackness. Oh no, we are standing in the middle of an Egyptian burial chamber. The dampness rolls off the stones of the walls, a dry desert sandalwood wind blows from outside, a clump of coriander grows somewhere in the corner. Grave goods are ancient papyri and peppercorns. Tobacco and leather give depth, while the tonka bean adds a slightly sweetish-modish contrast.
In the drydown, the mustiness fades a little, the scent becomes drier and clearer, more sand(elwood) and a little less spice. And then, all of a sudden, it's over. We step out of the burial chamber into the light and somehow the whole smell is just gone. Maybe a hint of sand, a slight scratch in the throat and Papyrus Moléculaire has evaporated like a memory of a long-gone culture.

This fresh spicy-green Mid season fragrance slowly settles to a slightly warm, yet clean (powdery) resinous-woody base. Very Unisex!

Milky, salty sandalwood, green and resinous overtones. A fine balancing act between fresh, sweet, salty and spicy. Too buttery for my taste.

Fresh & mildly sweet sandalwood w/ some green/powdery touches. In the Santal 33, Santal Complet, Gris Charnel realm. Very weak performance.

Very similar to Santal 33 by Le Labo and Morph Animal. It's a very good scent.. It only lacks a bit of originality. Performance are good.
