The future of the Kölnisch Wasser - remains uncertain...
I don't want to claim that this is the future of the Kölnisch Wasser, but the question is whether this traditional fragrance can be modernized - or whether it is not suitable for a contemporary fragrance concept per se and because of its conservative (and that means here because of its fixed) structure.
Since I am very interested in the fragrance family of classic Cologne water and all descendants of Farina Gegen gegenüber Original au de Cologne (1709) and all descendants of the more popular 4711 Echt Kölnisch Wassers (1792), I ask myself from time to time where the journey with this concept could go. Some time ago I put together the darker Kölnisch Wässer in my own collection on my site (see: Schwarze Colognes) and put together all the warmer tinted Eau de Colognes, where the original structure of the Kölnisch Wasser is still clearly recognizable. In addition, I have created a collection of all currently available traditionally composed Kölnisch Wässer for interested parties on my site (see above), where you can see the available fragrances of this direction. There you will also find the two classic Eau de Colognes by Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier: Eau pour le jeune Homme / Jeune Homme and the Jeune Homme / Eau pour le jeune Homme Extravagante discussed here. Both are very similar and while the normal version is still being produced, the extravagant version is no longer available. You don't really need either. They are (largely) twins. The ingredients are identical, there may be differences in concentration or density. It won't be so easy to tell them apart.
What makes the two variants innovative representatives of their guild are their spicy accents. While most eau de colognes in classic style are dominated by neroli, hesperidia, herbs, cedar and generally very bright floral accents, Jeune Homme contains a spicy trace that gives the fragrance an elegant note and makes it the ideal companion for stylish wardrobes. I also think the idea of choosing the warmer sandalwood for the base note instead of light cedar wood, which also gives many British fragrances a special note, has been a success. That's why Jeune Homme is excellent to wear not only in summer, but also in winter, which is why I chose him for this cold January day. Of course, this is not really a fragrance for Jeune Homme, but rather for gentlemen over the age of 40 or even 50, which is why I am allowed to wear it anyway. Since the extravagant version, which is in my collection, as already mentioned, is no longer available, I recommend the largely identical version Jeune Homme for a test: for lovers* of Kölnisch Wässern also in winter worth a try
