Like B683 Extrait, this is also a great follow up to EDP
The latest release from Marc-Antoine Barrois is Ganymede Extrait, the follow-up the award-winning 2019 release Ganymede (EDP). Like the change from B683 EDP to Extrait, the “change” from Ganymede EDP to Extrait involves a predictable increase in density but also a similar boost in sweetness and resins, at least to my nose. But its balance is overall fairly similar to the EDP, just intensified in a few key ways. It’s still essentially a sort of dry, semi-sweet, resinous blend of citruses/florals/woods, and like the EDP, done with excellently delicate taste.

At $380 for 50ml (sold at great boutiques like Perfumology), it’s quite pricey, the priciest of the line so far by a good margin, so I’d say that only those that love it should even consider buying a bottle, but that said, I think it’s a superb fragrance in terms of innovation, utility, performance, and (with the exception of the EDP) uniqueness.

Gold over Blue
Quentin Birsh manages to perfect the first version of Ganymed. If the EDP version was already fabulous, Extrait is even more extraordinary. Denser, warmer. I found no difference in sillage or duration. It suits all seasons of the year. No aromachemical bombs to bother you.
He significantly toned down the floral side by removing the violet leaf and Osmanthus, adding Myrrh and Frankincense which further underline Immortelle's golden burst.
The end result is a simpler, more masculine, spicy and earthy fragrance. With direct entry to my Top 10 surpassing the EDP version.

I am an unconditional lover of the scent of Everlasting flowers.
Not because the Greeks used it to crown the images and statues of Apollo since the plant symbolized love. Just because of the beautiful and unforgettable olfactory memories that I associate with it.
When at the end of the afternoon I returned from the beach along the dunes of the Alentejo coast, in front of Pessegueiro Island (Porto Covo - Portugal), I was blessed by a warm breeze that carried the comforting smell, at the same time spicy and relaxing of the “ Immortelles” of small golden yellow flowers.
A natural and serene fragrance where we take refuge. A sea breeze with the scent of herbs and flowers.
At the end of the afternoon our skin becomes a field of "immortelles".
The return of a time when everything seemed to be fine in Nature and within us.
Gold over Blue.

The magic is in the dry down
Ganymede extract has a very different output than normal Ganymede. I was initially surprised because I was expecting a fully boosted Ganymede, but this one goes a different way. The extract is more bodied, denser, warmer, and that mineral/metallic note that the normal Ganymede has is replaced by notes of leather and incense.

As it dries down, it recovers Ganymede's DNA, and here yes, the dry down looks more like an empowered Ganymede. Even so, that warm spicy part with a touch of citrus (mandarin) is noted in the extract. I also slightly perceive an undeclared note, which is coffee.

I see the extract more for autumn/winter, when the normal version would use it throughout the year.

I recommend trying it before buying, because it can disappoint, but I think that the magic of this fragrance is in the dry down, which is where it shows all its cards.

More intensity, no saffron on open. A lot of myrrh as it dries (doesn't work). Sillage weaker, longevity ~equal. Overall, the value is poor.

Biggest regret of trying this one on skin in 2023. Opening lures you in but drydown is scraping nails on chalkboard. Lethal if oversprayed

Missing the magical balance of the original, the Immortelle is boosted to excess, ends up alternating between bbq sauce and chlorine cleaner

This left me smelling like a curry—pure gourmand. A fine smell for my kitchen, not on my skin.

Memories of riding in old cars, the big yellow american diesel school busses, the interior of my dad's 1968 Camaro.
