Bal d'Afrique + Patch + Fantasy = Perfection!
This is such a hidden gem! I think the notes list and bottle design are a bit misleading, so maybe that's why it isn't talked about often. First of all, Twist is not a typical pink scent, if I had to assign colors to it, I'd chose dark green and bright yellow. And second, I smell several things here that aren't listed at all.
To my nose this a woodsy, peppery, even patchouli-infused pineapple scent with a warm and sweet base underneath. Maybe the pineapple-like impression comes from the bergamot mixed with sweeter notes, I definitely also get something citrusy here. But I really wonder where the black pepper and patch I smell are coming from.
The drydown has a clean and creamy texture thanks to the white musk, so this doesn't turn too sour and spicy. The amber in this is sweet and vanillic.
I first took notice of this because it has many votes as similar to Byredo Bal d'Afrique, a fragrance I love but find very expensive for what it is. Well, these two are not the same, but they are related. Twist is sweeter, heavier and more feminine leaning, especially in the drydown. The opening is quite androgynous for a female designer release. Bal d'Afrique is very much a summer scent to me, while Twist is more versatile.
As I live in a cooler part of the world and love sweet scents, I bought Twist and don't feel like I need Bal d'Afrique anymore.
When I first read on another site that some reviewers find this similar to Britney Spears Fantasy, I thought "no way". But then I sniffed my wrist again and suddenly I can detect hints of Fantasy in the base. Not a lot though. Imagine Bal d'Afrique mixed with a huge dose of peppery patch and a small dash of Fantasy, and you're pretty close to what Twist smells like.
