I feel like the snow queen
This fragrance literally caught me cold, in the truest sense of the word. Meant positively!
At first I thought: "Huuiiiiii, snow falling on cedars."
I love it when it's really cold and snowy in winter. But when was the last time we had that from December to the end of February? Sniff. I would love to be the Snow Queen. But not the Elsa from Disney, fooling around with snowman Olaf. Things were still pretty peaceful then. Of course, Disney can't present children with the "real" Snow Queen. The one from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale. This story is quite brutal and there is even murder. Psychologists today would perhaps say it's a psychological thriller for children. Kay and Gerda, the main characters, had to put up with quite a lot. There may be a toned-down version of the fairy tale today, but read the original and you'll know what I mean.
The Snow Queen, who held Kay captive in her ice palace, was beautiful and traveled through cold climes in her glittering sleigh. She was not a good one, despite all her beauty. Yuki is a good one, precisely because of his beauty.
The onset of winter with snow and hoarfrost on the already sprouting grass. The blades rattle as the wind sweeps over them. Streams and brooks are freed from the ice by spring's bright, invigorating gaze. Hopeful happiness greets the valley. The old winter in its weakness retreats to distant mountains. From there it sends - fleeing only - impotent showers of grainy ice over the green meadows. (Goethe).
May shoots on cedars and cypresses carefully poke their noses into the still frosty morning. The Snow Queen sends the ice saints and it is already May. A breath of jasmine winks pertly.
But the most beautiful thing is the lavender! Not the herbaceous lavender whip like Jicky's (although I like that too), but young lavender that has just blossomed. Finely balanced, but still very present.
Powdery, green amber mossiness nestles in. No, not a suffocating powder. No need to hide any pickiness under a layer here.
Yuki also has an impressive but not overpowering sillage. Even after more than 24 hours, there is still a hint of cool beauty on the skin.
Thank you Polly!

Crystalline ice lavender
Many people are looking for that one, unique fragrance that reflects all their expectations of life.
Does such a fragrance even exist?
How is it conceived and is it the same for everyone? This fragrance may exist, but it is very rare to crystallize what it must be able to do in order to sneak into the soul of its wearer.
If one assumes that a human being, when catapulted to this earth, has been able to enjoy a carefree existence up to now and under normal circumstances, since he has perhaps become aware of his personality in the size of a gummy bear. Then it is thrown out of its paradise into mummy's lap; it has needs such as hunger, thirst, warmth, protection and security, which must now be met by the people involved.
For a variety of reasons, most of which we are certainly not even aware of, most people do not succeed in satisfying these needs one hundred percent. What motivates some people to say this is practising frustration tolerance, which puts others under constant pressure to want to do everything right.
Nevertheless, there remains this vacuum, sometimes for life, which outsiders are unaware of because they are distracted by various stimuli.
For some people it never becomes apparent, for others only when they reach adulthood, that they have a deficit; one that reveals an emptiness deep inside that they cannot really grasp.
Yuki is not a spiritual fragrance, but like a smooth gel it fills holes in the emotional hard drive, mending connections that have been cut due to carelessness or trauma.
Lavender is often used for calming - even for tall and/or elderly people - and can be an opponent to anxiety if it is strongly herbaceous and hits the nose hard.
It is rare to find it as wonderfully composed and embedded as it is here, in powdery snow once thawed and covered with an ice crust, radiantly thrown back with the help of the sun.
The powdery note mentioned several times here is more reminiscent of wig powder, which is used in theaters or courthouses in England to care for second hair.
In addition, these harmoniously soft bath foam bubbles with a subtle soapy note, which only make you shiver comfortably.

Yuki is much more than the sum of its parts.
Warm, soft, uplifting, comforting and everything that touches you deep inside. Yet enchantingly gentle and quiet.
Puristic fits. Just like the lacquer-black box in which the perfume is sold. Wrapped in colorful fabric decorated with typical Japanese ornaments and traditionally knotted. A real feast for the eyes.

Scent of snow
Yuki is definitely an unusual fragrance that you do not smell on every street corner. This pleases me even more, because I love to be surprised.

Yuki is for me a very creative approach to a subject on which many try:
The scent of winter, the scent of snow.
The actually bizarre about this theme or the artistic approach is to find notes that smell of cold and of winter, although the winter air smells rather "scentless", in the sense of not packed with heavy floral and floral aromas, dry grasses and fermenting fruits, but clean, pure, cool, pungent sometimes, after earth, after wetness, after wood and now and then after wet grass. So free of many aromas that usually make up perfumes. That's why, in my opinion, the interpretation of the theme "scent of winter" is so subjective. A "rose des neige" (Les Parfums de la Rosine) or a "snowing rose" (Masaki Matsushima) does not smell like winter to me, because lush roses have no place in winter, even if the scent has aquatic beginnings. For others, this is certainly quite different.

But now to Yuki. Maybe I find the theme of winter so well implemented here because I share the association of lavender with coolness and lavender for me this aromatic-fresh note radiates, as if the other flowers have long faded and that is now only the scent of the damp, raw earth. This is just as bizarre as to see the rose as a winter scent, since the lavender smell is characteristic of the absolute high summer - and would I be, for example, from Provence, then my associations would certainly be quite different.

Yuki thus starts with this cool-fresh lavender note, which radiates calm, as when the snow covers the earth and life may now go slower for a while. Woody notes join in. I associate this with the cold, snow-covered earth in a forest, the wet tree trunks, the cool, damp, mossy bark. The scent smells very much like natural essential oils to me, lavender and the essential oil of woods (Hinoki is supposed to smell like cypress and lemon according to the internet. Cedar I smell maximum supportive). Together they harmonize beautifully, the scent is very calm, very aromatic-fresh, very quiet. The "snow in the forest" note through lavender & hinoki wood rests on a powdery musk vanilla base that becomes more prominent after about an hour, a note to snuggle in on after returning home from the cold winter out in the woods to enjoy a warm cup of tea, curl up on the couch with your sweetheart, loved one and/or beloved pet next to you. The lavender, meanwhile, has blended beautifully with the other notes to create a lovely, soothing, unsweet vanilla scent that also feels very natural. I don't smell the oakmoss at all, thankfully (headache note), but I imagine it helps create that cool, fresh vibe. From the jasmine I get only sometimes what with, the maximum supports in the background a bit.

Conclusion:
Yuki is for me the fragrance of winter, without "really" smell like snow, because he awakens exactly the same associations as snow and I love him for the fact that he is so calm and wrapping, comforting and quiet. It exudes class, elegance, calm & serenity. Gives the wearer adulthood and thereby sexiness because he/she doesn't need to smell explicitly "sexy". Yuki is thus definitely unisex, definitely still wearable into spring and also from the foggy months in late fall. I associate with it the color silver / silver violet.

Edit 4 years later:
In the meantime, I've been able to test a lot, but found nothing that would be nicer in this category. From the rough family of powdery-fresh lavender / musk vanilla base I have discovered the following. To this I would like to say, however, that something bothers me about all fragrances.
Lethe
Rimbaud both are warmer and sweeter
Pour Un Homme de Caron (1934) Eau de Toilette in the beginning aftershave
Midnight in Paris Eau de Toilette much sweeter and stronger and heavier
Bvlgari Black KN different, yet DD very similar vanilla musk/restaromatic notes
